2/04/25 Eagles' Owner Echoes Nick Sirianni's Passing Game Sentiment. Winning makes revision easier in the NFL. Rewind to the spring and summer of last year and the Eagles spent their offseason trying to evolve their offense after a perceived poor 2023 campaign in which Philadelphia finished No. 8 overall (a disappointing at the time 16th in passing and No. 8 in rushing). The scapegoats for the perceived underachievement were former offensive coordinator Brian Johnson and ex-quarterbacks coach Alex Tanney. In came Kellen Moore and Doug Nussmeier to clean up the passing game and evolve it with more motion and “creativity,” the buzzword among fans that essentially means aesthetics.

8/30/24 10 Colts Things: How Shane Steichen is fostering team-wide confidence, inside the Anthony Richardson-Jonathan Taylor pairing, Laiatu Latu's remarkable preview and what we learned in 2024 preseason. 1. This entire team is behind Shane Steichen – and that's not by accident. Alex Tanney signed with the Cleveland Browns just before Thanksgiving in 2013 and had all of five days to learn his new team's offense before backing up starter Brandon Weeden for a Week 13 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The guy tasked with teaching Tanney the system was a 28-year-old offensive quality control coach: Shane Steichen. Eleven years later, Tanney is now on Steichen's coaching staff as the Colts' pass game coordinator.

5/13/23 Spadaro: Brian Johnson lays out his vision to add more magic to the offense. It also has a new coordinator, Brian Johnson, who spoke publicly for the first time on Thursday and outlined in the most general of terms what he hopes the Eagles' offense becomes in the season ahead. "I think the challenge for us is to build an offense to where we're making defenses cover the entire length and the entire width of the field and be able to play on our terms." Johnson, a former standout quarterback himself at Utah who was an offensive coordinator who called plays for a prolific University of Florida team before joining Nick Sirianni's staff, appears to be making a natural coaching transition. The Eagles expect the coaching succession line to be smooth – Shane Steichen goes to Indianapolis as the head coach, Johnson becomes the offensive coordinator, and Alex Tanney bumps up to quarterbacks coach.
