Well, that will be the case when the New England Patriots host the Los Angeles Chargers at least. Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo confirmed running back Antonio Gibson would start over Stevenson when he appeared on 98.5 The Sports Hub's pregame show. Stevenson's demotion follows a Week 16 loss to the Buffalo Bills in which the running back lost a costly second-half fumble. Here are three overlooked issues for New England going into free agency. Rhamondre Stevenson and the rejuvenated Antonio Gibson have given life to the Patriots ground game, at least when the score allows Alex Van Pelt to stick with it. 12/22/24	Rhamondre Stevenson ball security issues return in loss to Bills, and he no longer has a hold as Patriots' featured back. If you want to be considered a feature back in the NFL, you have to hold on to the football. The Bills turned those two fumbles into 10 points. On a day when the Patriots were as close to perfect for the first 30 minutes as they have been all season, they gave away the game while losing their sixth contest by 7 points or fewer. “I just need to hold the ball,” Stevenson flatly said after the game. The problem for Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson may be the Bills offense. Many opponents have tried to establish the run against a Bills front that allows 4.7 yards per carry, which ranks 24th in the league, but early deficits have often eliminated that portion of the game. 12/15/24	Game Preview: Patriots at Cardinals. The Patriots ground game has shown signs of life in recent games as Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson have resembled their early-season form. Gibson in particular was impressive in the loss to the Colts with 62 yards on just seven carries while Stevenson ripped off a 32-yard run. The Cardinals have been rather pedestrian stopping the run, ranking 18th in the league while allowing 121.8 yards per game, and 19th at 4.5 yards per carry.
