The deal was completed five days after Vanasco was designated for assignment. Vanasco became the second of three pitchers to get DFA'd by the Dodgers last week as they faced a roster crunch. James Paxton was first to suffer that fate, as the Dodgers needed to make room on their active and 40-man rosters for River Ryan to come up for his MLB debut.

7/14/24 'No Excuse' For Dodgers' 5-Run 9th Inning Collapse. The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the ninth inning against the Detroit Tigers with a five-run lead, a 99% win probability, and three outs away from, at minimum, a series win heading into the All-Star break. The Dodgers bullpen has been overworked recently, and they once again had to cover four innings in the game. With that lead, Ricky Vanasco was called upon as Dodgers manager Dave Roberts figured the rookie could protect a five-run lead and give the rest of the bullpen a breather. Evan Phillips recorded the first two outs, and it seemed like the Dodgers were once again on their way to winning the game.

11/25/23 2023 Dodgers in review: Ricky Vanasco. Ricky Vanasco's spent June on the Dodgers 40-man roster and the rest of the season in the minors. The right-hander, drafted out of high school by the Rangers in the 15th round in 2017, was added to the Texas 40-man roster in November 2021 after Tommy John surgery wiped out that minor league season for him. Vanasco began this season with Double-A Frisco, which is where he ended 2022, but after two short starts he missed six and a half weeks on the injured list. The Rangers designated Vanasco for assignment on May 29, then traded him to the Dodgers two days later in exchange for minor league left-hander Luis Valdez, then a 19-year-old in Low-A.
