7/13/24 | Ben Rice or Carlos Narvaez as Yankees' No. 2 catcher? Here is Aaron Boone's take. Carlos Narvaez joined the Yankees from Triple-A on Saturday with three days of major league service time and no game action to share the catching duties with fellow rookie Austin Wells while Jose Trevino is sidelined. The Yankees aren't considering throwing first baseman Ben Rice into the mix even though the rookie's first position was catcher until this season. “No plans to alter what Bennie is doing,” manager Aaron Boone said before Saturday's Yankees-Orioles' game at Oriole Park. The Yankees were pressed into calling up Narvaez with Trevino put on the 10-day injured list with a left quad strain that occurred on a slide into home plate in the ninth inning of a 4-1 victory.
