The St. Louis Cardinals have been able to do what most other major league teams have not: beat Pirates ace Paul Skenes consistently. The reigning NL Cy Young Award winner fell to 0-5 all-time against the Cardinals when he took the loss in a 10-5 defeat that gave St. Louis a four-game sweep of the early-season series at PNC Park. Skenes' ERA against St. Louis is a more than respectable 2.95, but Pirates manager Don Kelly noted the Cardinals are more focused on swinging away than trying to work the count against Skenes. Pittsburgh's fifth straight loss dropped the Pirates to 16-16 as May begins.
