Cody Bellinger (OF/1B/DH - NYY)

3/26/25 2:00 PM -
Former Cubs thriving with their new teams in 2025 isn't necessarily a bad thing. It was not fun to see a Chicago Cubs fan favorite like Cody Bellinger get traded to the New York Yankees in a move made just to be rid of his contract. The Cubs acquired All-Star Kyle Tucker to play right field and plan to go with Michael Busch at first, Pete Crow-Armstrong in center and Seiya Suzuki at DH, which made Bellinger (who will not and should not be used in a utility or bench role) an odd man out.

In the era of big velocities, some pitchers are still finding other ways to succeed. Texas Rangers left-hander Cody Bradford says he realized early in his development that he probably wouldn’t ever possess the type of fastball that causes scouts to take a second look at their radar guns. It hasn’t stopped him from finding a home in the majors, even in an era focused on pushing velocities higher and higher. Bradford’s part of a small fraternity of pitchers who have bucked recent trends by maintaining successful careers without throwing particularly hard. Detroit Tigers Make Bold Roster Decision on Former First Overall Pick. With the regular season nearly here for the Detroit Tigers, the team has made a big roster decision with the new campaign looming. One of the biggest question marks for the Tigers coming into the year is whether their offense is going to be good enough to truly compete. This winter, the only notable addition to improve was bringing in Gleyber Torres from the New York Yankees.

Kwan flirted with .400 for a bit last year, but ultimately ended up hitting just .291 courtesy of a miserable second-half slide. Heading into the new MLB campaign, there are big expectations for Kwan, and James Mastrucci of Away Back Gone has dropped a wildly bold prediction for the lefty: hitting over 25 home runs. Angels rally past Dodgers as both teams navigate missing shortstops. The Angels know they will be without Zach Neto for the early portion of the season, while the Dodgers are trying to get a line on their infield situation as Mookie Betts deals with an illness that is now going on two weeks.

How injuries are forcing the Yankees and other contenders into difficult roster choices. Joel Sherman How injuries are forcing the Yankees and other contenders into difficult roster choices By Joel Sherman Published March 25, 2025, 6:00 a.m. ET Charles Wenzelberg/NY Post The Yankees are first. No doubt. No team took a worse injury beating this spring. They will begin the season with 11 players on the injured list, so there was quantity. More vitally, there was quality. Notably, ace Gerrit Cole needed Tommy John surgery and will miss the season . AL Rookie of the Year Luis Gil will be out until at least June (probably longer) with a strained lat. That has left the Yankees thin in rotation depth. The Yankees have not provided a timeline to return for DJ LeMahieu (calf) or Giancarlo

Fernando Cruz (P - NYY)

Yankees' key reliever made slew of changes this spring, from pitches to wardrobe. Change has been the operative word for Yankees reliever Fernando Cruz this spring. Yes, he's in a new uniform after getting dealt from the Reds to the Yankees over this past offseason in the Jose Trevino trade, but that's just the start of it. Since Cruz got to the Yankees, he's made a slew of adjustments. Cruz scrapped his cutter, he added two new pitches, he changed where he stands on the mound (moving from the first base side of the rubber to the third base side), he altered his approach in attacking hitters and he even started wearing sleeves under his jersey.

Rafael Devers (3B - BOS)

3/25/25 2:00 AM -
In Alex we trust: Red Sox players and fans know they have the right manager for the job. Incumbent third baseman Rafael Devers didn't want to become a designated hitter to make room for Bregman, Bregman didn't want to ruffle any feathers, and nobody, it seemed, was ready to play second base. It was enough for our own Dan Shaughnessy to call it one of the wilder spring training days in club history, bringing plenty of potential to derail clubhouse harmony. Enter Alex Cora. With his usual mix of experience and patience, the Red Sox manager handled the situation with apparent ease, neither allowing it to boil over upon first reaction, when he reminded the world he is not in the business of censoring his players, nor ignoring the possible awkwardness, which he promised would work out in the end.

Aroldis Chapman (P - BOS)

How the Red Sox' Garrett Crochet made the transformation from reliever to one of the most dominant starters in baseball. On Thursday, however, his Opening Day assignment for the Red Sox against the Rangers will represent something different. Crochet, who was still trying to prove he could start in the big leagues last March 28, has emerged as one of the most overpowering pitchers in baseball. “You're basically getting an elite closer — an Aroldis Chapman type —pitching in a starting role,” said White Sox senior adviser to pitching Brian Bannister, formerly the Red Sox' director of pitching. “Unworldly,” said White Sox pitcher Jonathan Cannon.
