Young Red Sox rotation surprisingly delivering early-season dominance. There were some big April shockers, but absolutely no one (not me certainly) saw such mastery coming from the Red Sox rotation, not after Boston practically sat out the winter. After a so-so (at best) 2023 season, the Sox signed for the rotation only Lucas Giolito, the previously reliable righty who turned out to require Tommy John surgery (considering his history, yet another surprise). So it's incredible improvement among the young holdovers that's doing it. With Giolito and now Nick Pivetta and Brayan Bello on the injured list, and absolutely no expectations beyond its own front office, Boston's rotation has posted an MLB best (by far) 2.03 ERA while allowing an MLB best no earned runs in

Red Sox once again send Bobby Dalbec (hitting .132) down to WooSox (report). Bobby Dalbec's latest opportunity to stick in the majors with the Red Sox is reportedly over. Dalbec has been optioned back to Triple-A Worcester, according to WEEI's Rob Bradford, clearing a roster spot for the expected activation of second baseman Vaughn Grissom before Friday's series opener in Minnesota. The move has not been made official by the Sox, who lost, 3-1, to the Giants on Thursday. The move comes as no surprise considering the new makeup of the Red Sox' infield mix.

Red Sox Newcomer Makes History In Big League Debut. The Red Sox didn't have many standout performers in their loss to the San Francisco Giants on Thursday, but Naoyuki Uwasawa sure did turn some heads. Uwasawa made his big league debut Thursday, and provided some much-needed length on a getaway day at Fenway Park — something Brennan Bernardino, Zack Kelly and Cam Booser all failed to do. Red Sox manager Alex Cora called on Uwasawa in the eighth, and got exactly what he expected out of the 30-year-old.

New Rogers Centre dimensions following renovations have changed how it plays. Daulton Varsho loves to go all out when tracking down a fly ball but the new smaller foul areas at Rogers Centre have him being a little more cautious. The Toronto Blue Jays completed the second phase of $400 million renovations to their downtown ballpark in the off-season, with the changes designed to improve the fan and player experience as the stadium becomes a baseball-specific venue. Part of shrinking the foul territory was building higher walls in the outfield parallel to the first- and third-base lines.

Enmanuel Valdez doesn't currently fit any of the bench roles that are up for grabs in Boston, but the Red Sox doing their best to change that. Boston expects Vaughn Grissom to join the lineup as an every day second baseman Friday, so it makes more sense for Short to serve as a bench piece for the team given his defensive versatility. Valdez will be given the chance to earn his spot back, though, as he'll take on added responsibility with the WooSox. “It's against what I wanted last year, last year I wanted him to focus on second base, we talked about it and we're going back to versatility,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora shared Thursday.

Gil allowed two hits and a walk over a career-high 6 1/3 innings in another low-scoring game between the top two teams in the AL East. Baltimore began this four-game series with victories of 2-0 and 4-2, but Gil’s performance helped the Yankees ensure they weren’t swept. All was bliss, but only for a while in White Sox' latest loss. On a delightful day for baseball, the White Sox hit a couple of homers and built a lead, all systems go for a rare victory. It felt like welcome to the merry, merry month of May after a horrendous four and a half weeks of .200 baseball. For the 6-25 Sox, though, it was more of the same: A blown lead, walks that killed them and a costly two-run error by shortstop Paul DeJong on a routine ground ball spelling doom in a 10-5 loss to the streaking Twins, who completed their second series sweep of the Sox in 10 days and winning their 10th game in a row. Chris Flexen allowed two runs over five innings, which doesn't even qualify as a quality start (six or more innings, three earned runs or fewer) but for these Sox, it was a “we'll take it” start nonetheless.

Red Sox acquire LHP in trade with White Sox. Before the Boston Red Sox beat the San Francisco Giants at Fenway Park on Tuesday, the front office was working the phones and getting a deal done. According to MassLive's Chris Cotillo, the Red Sox agreed to a deal with the Chicago White Sox which will send left-handed pitcher Bailey Horn to Boston for cash. Cotillo reports that Horn will be in Triple-A Worcester but will be on Boston's 40-man roster.

Kepler lifts Twins over White Sox 6-5 for team's first 9-game win streak in 16 years. Max Kepler drove in the tiebreaking run in the ninth inning for the second straight game, this time hitting a sacrifice fly, and the Minnesota Twins won their ninth in a row, 6-5 over the Chicago White Sox. Chicago’s Andrew Benintendi homered leading off the eighth to tie it at 5 after Minnesota scored twice in the top half. But the Twins pulled it out in the ninth. Byron Buxton walked and took third on Manuel Margot’s single. Kepler then put Minnesota on top with a sacrifice fly to center. Jhoan Duran pitched around a leadoff single by Tommy Pham in the bottom half and picked up the save.

JJ Bleday hit a go-ahead home run with one out in the fifth and a two-run drive in the seventh for his first career multi-homer game, leading the Oakland Athletics past the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2. Pinch-hitter Victor Caratini’s two-run homer with two outs in the 10th inning and Josh Hader’s first two-inning outing since 2019 lifted the Houston Astros over the Cleveland Guardians 10-9. Josh Smith and Leody Taveras homered for the defending World Series champion Rangers. The 14-15 Nationals missed a chance to get over .500 for the first time since July 1, 2021. This time, Yankees can't defend Gleyber Torres for taking risk that gifted Orioles a run in 4-2 loss. If Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres is superstitious even a little bit, he's probably happy that Wednesday is the start of a new month. April wasn't a good one for Torres at the plate or in the field, and it ended poorly Tuesday night at Oriole Park. The Yankees' lost 4-2 to the Orioles and Torres' second-inning throwing error not only brought in the first run, but it was on a risky throw to third base when he had an easy out at first. This one was much worse than April 16 in Toronto when Torres made the same decision when a runner broke for third base on a groundball to second base with nobody out and a man on second.

Dean Kremer pitched seven innings of two-run ball, Adley Rutschman extended his hitting streak to a career-best 11 games and the Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees 4-2. Baltimore won the first two games of a four-game series between the AL East’s top teams and opened a one-game AL East lead, the largest this season for the defending division champion. Juan Soto hit a 447-foot homer and Austin Wells also had a solo drive for the Yankees, which has lost four of six and scored just two runs in the series.

Rays and Brewers get into wild brawl, with Uribe and Siri in the middle of it. Punches were thrown when a brawl broke out between the Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers. The fracas ensued after Jose Siri grounded out against Brewers pitcher Abner Uribe leading off the eighth inning. Uribe and Siri exchanged words near first base and things quickly became heated. With an umpire standing between them trying to keep the peace, Uribe threw a punch at Siri, who then took a wild swing at the reliever as both dugouts and bullpens emptied quickly. The animosity between Siri and the Brewers had been building all night. He took a long look at his home run in the third off Freddy Peralta, who drilled Siri with a 3-0 fastball in the sixth. That led to Peralta and Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy getting ejected.
