After the Seattle Mariners bullpen was heavily taxed during its 10-game road trip, starting pitcher George Kirby delivered just what the team needed on Monday night. As part of a 6-2 win against the Kansas City Royals, Kirby went six strong innings, allowing just one earned run. Kirby is now 2-4 with a 4.85 ERA as he continues to work into shape following an injury that sidelined him from early March until late-May. Seattle is well on its way to a finish that ownership's limited investment bought. Starter George Kirby entered the year with Cy Young aspirations but got a late start to the season due to shoulder inflammation. The Mariners fell to 41-38 with the loss and dropped to 5.5 games behind the Houston Astros in the American League West.
