BOSTON (KLTV) - Former Hallsville Bobcat Justin Slaten threw two scoreless innings of relief to keep his Red Sox ahead in a game Boston lost in extra innings, 9-4, to Baltimore on Thursday. The righthander entered the game in the sixth inning, with Boston holding a 2-1 lead. Slaten got a lineout, popout and strikeout from Anthony Santander, Ryan O'Hearn and Ryan Mountcastle, respectively. In the seventh, Slaten walked the leadoff hitter, Cedric Mullins, but cleaned up the inning with a double play from Colton Cower. Slaten pumped his fist following the second out. Justin Slaten continuously impressed people around the Boston Red Sox organization after his Rule 5 path led him to the organization in the offseason. The 26-year-old inherited a poor situation in his MLB debut, surrendering a walk-off hit to Julio Rodriguez as the Red Sox lost to the Seattle Mariners on March 30. Slaten took the mound again on Saturday against the Angels.
