It has not been a great season for the Atlanta Braves, who currently sit at 61-75 ahead of Sunday's series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies. Atlanta has dealt with both injuries and major regression up and down the roster up to this point, now in twice as bad of a position as they were when they got off to an 0-7 start to begin the season from a record perspective. The Atlanta Braves are approaching a contract crossroads with Ozzie Albies, and the decision is only getting tougher as the offseason approaches. Better late than never, the Braves likely suppose, but we're finally seeing a sustained stretch of Albies' All-Star self again. Following this season, Albies will have a $7 million club option for 2026 and another of the same salary for 2027. As a result, the Braves, for the first time in years, are likely to be sellers at the deadline instead of buyers. The former two-time All-Star has developed an unsatisfactory reputation among many Braves fans, and it unfortunately may lead to his eventual departure from the team. Tuesday, USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported that the Braves, though having a $7 million option for Albies' 2027 season, would “at least listen to trade offers” regarding their second baseman. While reports suggest Ozzie Albies will not be traded this week, the Braves could change their mind. According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Braves could entertain trading Albies in the winter. Albies' name has been floated in trade rumors, but he's a bit of a complicated case between his struggles at the plate and his team-friendly contract for the next couple years. The Houston Astros are in the market for a left-handed hitter, and ideally, would also bring in a new second baseman. While the middle-infield trade market isn't bountiful, there is an option that has newly been linked to the Astros. Jim Bowden of The Athletic has linked the Astros with Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies. Houston needs a second baseman and a lefty hitter, and Albies would fill both needs.
