9/09/25 | Astros to make J.P. France decision ahead of pivotal Blue Jays series. The Houston Astros came into the 2025 MLB season with plenty of injuries in the pitching staff, with Cristian Javier, Luis Garcia, Spencer Arrighetti, and J.P. France all missing extended time this season. Not to mention the Astros have also been without Lance McCullers Jr. for parts of the year, and have had a rotation of pitchers at the back-end of the starting rotation this season. 9/04/25 | Astros' Christian Javier accomplishes important feat while pitching to Aaron Judge. Cristian Javier's return from Tommy John surgery has been a study in reinvention, but Thursday in the Bronx he flashed something wonderfully familiar: pure, unfiltered gas. Working a 1-2 count to Aaron Judge, Javier reached back for 95.5 mph — his hardest pitch since returning — and dotted the top of the zone. Before the injury, Javier was baseball's poster child for the modern high fastball: average velocity, obscene carry, and a tunnel with a sweeper that made barrels disappear. Lineups eventually adjusted, and even Javier began pivoting before his elbow gave out, sprinkling in more changeups. Source: https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/houston-astros/astros... |
9/03/25 | Astros fall victim to injuries once more as starter heads to IL. Throughout the season, the Houston Astros have suffered numerous injuries to key players, including many starting pitchers. Cristian Javier, Luis Garcia, Yordan Alvarez and Isaac Paredes have all spent time on the 60-day IL this season. At one point earlier in the year, Houston had 18 different players on the injured list at once. Now, Spencer Arrighetti is headed to the 15-day injured list soon after returning from injury, according to Astros beat writer Chandler Rome. 8/13/25 | Astros turn to Hunter Brown in series finale vs. Red Sox. After the Houston Astros welcomed back Cristian Javier to their starting rotation on Monday following a 15-month absence due to Tommy John surgery, All-Star closer Josh Hader took his place on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder discomfort. Astros manager Joe Espada was non-committal when asked who would replace Hader at the back end of the bullpen. Right-hander Bryan Abreu seems the logical choice given his role setting up Hader, but Espada remains open to utilizing multiple options. 8/06/25 | How did Astros' Cristian Javier pitch in possible final rehab start?. It's a testament to the Houston Astros' resiliency as a franchise that despite the departures of some of their key players over the offseason and persistent injury woes plaguing the team, they still find themselves sitting atop the AL West with a 64-50 record. On Tuesday, the Astros took care of business against the Marlins, grabbing a 7-3 victory on the road. One of their key starting pitchers, Cristian Javier, started just seven games in 2024 and has missed all of 2025 thus far — missing time since the 21st of May last year after suffering an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery. Javier, however, has been on the comeback trail for a while now, and on Tuesday, he made what was possibly his last rehab start before returning to the majors. 6/19/25 | Astros' Joe Espada reveals big Cristian Javier update before Athletics game. As the Houston Astros (43-31) gain more separation in the American League West — led the Seattle Mariners by five and a half games entering Thursday night's matchup versus the Athletics, it is becoming easier to overlook their depleted pitching staff. And that cannot happen. Although Joe Espada's club continues to excel with more than half a dozen hurlers on the injured list, sustaining success in this state is hard to fathom. Reinforcements are essential. Fortunately, one player just made critical progress. Astros right-handed pitcher Cristian Javier, who underwent Tommy John surgery last June, threw in his first live batting practice , according to the Houston Chronicle's Matt Kawahara.
