8/09/25	This pitcher spent over 3 years in rehab before his opportunity with Tigers. Codi Heuer lost out on a lot of baseball in the last few years. The right-handed pitcher — who joined the league in the sixth round of the 2018 MLB Draft — had the momentum of his career built up by 2022 dashed when he required Tommy John surgery. Just as Heuer neared a return with the Chicago Cubs, his rehab took an abrupt halt when he fractured an inside piece of his elbow and needed to get five screws put in. Rocker, who had been on the IL for five weeks while rehabbing a shoulder impingement, had made two rehab starts in the minors over the last 10 days, allowing two hits and one walk in seven scoreless innings for Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock. In his most recent outing Rocker retired the first 12 hitters he faced for Round Rock on Thursday before allowing a leadoff walk in the fifth and then leaving. Depending on a reliever returning from Tommy John surgery is not ideal for any Major League Baseball team but that is what it has come down to for the Chicago Cubs as they await the return of right-handed relief pitcher Codi Heuer. The Cubs' bullpen has been a disaster this season with the latest example coming in the team's 7-6 loss to the Houston Astros on Wednesday night. The Cubs had a 6-1 lead over the Astros on Wednesday heading into the eighth inning as the team appeared to be well on the way toward ending their 4-game losing streak.
