Uncharacteristic shaky defense put the Milwaukee Brewers in too deep a hole in the first of a four game series against the Cincinnati Reds Monday at the Great American Ballpark. Three errors helped the Reds build an 8-0 lead and they held on for dear life in a 10-8 victory. Aaron Ashby made his first big league start since last season's shoulder surgery and he lasted three and two thirds innings, giving up 6 hits and 8 runs but only four of them were earned thanks to miscues from third baseman Joey Ortiz and first baseman Rhys Hoskins. Milwaukee rallied thanks to a pair of two run homers from Christian Yelich and Brice Turang. The Milwaukee Brewers placed starting pitcher Jakob Junis on the 15-day injured list Saturday because of a right shoulder impingement, retroactive to Wednesday. Left-hander Aaron Ashby, at one time a top prospect in organization, was recalled from Triple-A Nashville and will take Junis’ spot in the rotation. Surprise contributors have been a big reason the Brewers have been able to stay in the postseason picture this season, but the organization is nearing tough decisions on several of them. The Brewers have one of the National League's best pitching staffs, but the pitchers leading the way often haven't been the ones projected to be there. Through their first 106 games the Brewers have yet to send Aaron Ashby (shoulder) to the mound, have seen Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) just twice and they're also currently without Wade Miley (elbow) and Eric Lauer (shoulder).
