7/02/25 | Is Ceiling of Rockies' Latest Call Up Really Yordan Alvarez?. There hasn't been much for Colorado Rockies fans to get excited about this season -- or really the past few years -- but that could change with the promotion of one of their top prospects. On Tuesday, it was announced that Yanquiel Fernandez had been called up to the Major League roster, giving the Rockies and their fans another chance to see a potential franchise cornerstone player perform at the highest level. Ranked fifth in Colorado's pipeline, the 22-year-old Cuban native was signed to a minor league contract back in 2019, and since he made his professional debut in 2021, he has done nothing but impress. Fernandez has a career minor league slash line of .279/.336/.478 with 77 homers and 338 RBI, hitting 20 or more blasts in two out of his three full seasons. 7/01/25 | OF prospect Fernandez, 22, recalled by Rockies. The Colorado Rockies recalled outfielder Yanquiel Fernandez, the organization's No. 5-ranked prospect, from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday. The 22-year-old Fernandez is batting .284 with 13 homers and 39 RBIs in 64 games for Albuquerque this season. The Rockies signed him for $295,000 as an international free agent out of Cuba in 2019, when he was 16. The left-handed batter was not in the starting lineup Tuesday night against Houston Astros lefty Colton Gordon. Source: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/45635888/color... |
7/27/24 | Rockies Journal: As trade deadline looms, Colorado should go all in with youth. The chances of the Rockies making a blockbuster trade are about as remote as rental DVDs making a comeback. The rebuilding Rockies — oops, sorry, it's “a team under construction” — are clearly in the midst of a youth movement. Outfield prospects Zac Veen and Yanquiel Fernandez are on the near horizon, and outfielder Jordan Beck (currently injured) has already debuted. Lefty Carson Palmquist and right-hander Chase Dollander are two intriguing pitching prospects on the fast track to the majors. Source: https://www.denverpost.com/2024/07/27/mlb-trade-de... |
