5/25/25 Former Red Sox top prospect traded at 2024 deadline dominating with Angels. Former Boston Red Sox prospect Matthew Lugo got the call to the majors by the Los Angeles Angels on May 9 and is having a historic start to his career. Drafted in the second round in 2019, Lugo was dealt with three other prospects for reliever Luis Garcia at last year's trade deadline.

5/21/25 Angels Manager Pumps the Brakes on Young Rookie's Hot Start to Season. Matthew Lugo's first month in MLB has gone better than just about anyone expected. Lugo's batting average, slugging percentage, and OPS (1.092) also lead the Los Angeles Angels. After making his debut on his 24th birthday, Lugo quickly made a name for himself in MLB.

5/19/25 Angels’ Matthew Lugo gets big league career off to hot start. The 24-year-old outfielder is batting .360 with three home runs and a 1.260 OPS through his first nine games, but manager Ron Washington urges caution and consistency, citing Kyren Paris’ similar start before he cooled off.

5/14/25 Angels Rookie Achieves Insane Feat Not Accomplished in More Than 50 Years. Winston Llenas was a relatively marginal player in Angels history, more famous for sitting than playing. Llenas, who appeared in 300 games for the California Angels from 1968-75, entered a remarkable 198 of those games as a pinch hitter. Pinch hitting kept Llenas' name along in an obscure corner of the franchise record book for 51 years — until this week. When Matthew Lugo hit his second career home run Tuesday against the San Diego Padres, he became the first Angels player since Llenas in 1974 to record his first two homers as a pinch hitter.

5/10/25 Matthew Lugo likely to get longer look as Angels host Orioles. The Los Angeles Angels likely will give another opportunity to a young player with considerable potential when they host the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night in Anaheim, Calif. Outfielder Matthew Lugo was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday, his 24th birthday. Lugo made his major league debut in Friday's 4-1 loss to the Orioles, entering as a pinch runner in the eighth inning and manning center field in the ninth. The Angels are hoping Lugo realizes the promise that shortstop Zach Neto and catcher Logan O'Hoppe have shown so far after getting major league opportunities.
