2/27/25 Orioles predicted to land $24.15 million All-Star at trade deadline. The Baltimore Orioles may not have done enough this offseason to shore up their starting rotation. While Tomoyuki Sugano and Charlie Morton were signed, Corbin Burnes left in free agency for the Arizona Diamondbacks, and they are without an ace. Perhaps at the trade deadline, Baltimore could cough up the prospects necessary to land an ace. Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report lists them a team that would be interested in Luis Castillo and predicted that the right-hander would finish the season in Baltimore.

2/21/25 Japanese Ace Impressed During His First Baltimore Orioles Live Pitching Session. The Baltimore Orioles got their first look one of their newest pitchers on Friday. 35-year-old Japanese sensation Tomoyuki Sugano faced live hitters for the first time this spring, and even though he threw against three prospects -- Enrique Bradfield Jr., Dylan Beavers and Jud Fabian -- he still impressed those who saw how he worked. Kubatko reported Beavers hit two doubles on hard-hit line drives, Fabian got a base knock after striking out twice and Bradfield grounded out and hit a liner to left that he estimates would have been caught.

2/15/25 Tomoyuki Sugano Sets High Bar Upon Meeting Orioles Teammates at Spring Training. Tomoyuki Sugano made it very clear what his main goal is for the 2025 season when he met his new Baltimore Orioles teammates. Sugano arrived at the Orioles' spring training camp Saturday morning, two months after signing with Baltimore. Per the Baltimore Banner's Andy Kostka, the first words the Japanese pitcher said to the rest of the team – through an interpreter – were "Let's go win a world championship." The 35-year-old right-hander is on a one-year deal with the Orioles, so he doesn't have a particularly long runway to win a World Series in Baltimore.

1/29/25 Baltimore Orioles New Pitcher Previews His Stuff in Bullpen Session Video. Earlier this offseason, the Baltimore Orioles signed Japanese right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano to a one-year deal. Sugano figures to pair with Grayson Rodriguez, Zach Eflin and Charlie Morton in the starting rotation, while Dean Kremer and others battle for the No. 5 spot. The 35-year-old Sugano comes to the United States after spending 12 seasons in Japan with the Yomiuri Giants.

1/07/25 Newly-Signed Baltimore Orioles Starter Brings This Elite Aspect to Their Rotation. The Baltimore Orioles' rotation looks worse on paper right now than it did last season. The Orioles have been able made additions, though, signing Japanese star Tomoyuki Sugano and veteran Charlie Morton to one-year deals each. Both could come in and provide great starts every fifth or sixth day for Baltimore to boost this rotation, something the front office is banking on happening as they look to take the next step in this iteration of the franchise. This is the first time Sugano has pitched outside of Japan, and Morton is over 40 years old.

1/03/25 Charlie Morton agrees to a 1-year, $15 million deal with the Orioles. The 41-year-old Morton, the hero of Game 7 of the 2017 World Series with Houston, will try to fill a hole in Baltimore's rotation. It will be Morton's 18th major league season. The Orioles also signed 35-year-old Tomoyuki Sugano of Japan this offseason to a $13 million, one-year deal. Baltimore lost its ace from 2024 in Corbin Burnes, who signed a $210 million contract with Arizona last month.

12/28/24 Look: Yomiuri Giants Launch Merchandise For Orioles' New Free-Agent Signing. If there was any concern that the Yomiuri Giants had any hard feelings around pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano leaving the NPB and signing with the Baltimore Orioles, well, the franchise dispelled those notions earlier this week. As part of Sugano's departure to Major League Baseball, the Giants released a line of merchandise featuring Sugano with the slogan, “Tomo, You Can Do It!” through its web site.

12/20/24 Sugano's resume is impressive, and the Orioles hope the 35-year-old RHP has plenty in the tank. When Tomoyuki Sugano took the mound in the semifinals of the World Baseball Classic, pitching for Japan against the United States, it was a pretty good preview of what the major leagues might feel like. “Having the opportunity to pitch at Dodger Stadium in the 2017 WBC against the American team was a dream come true," he said through a translator. Now Sugano is on his way to the majors, although he's joining a team on a different side of the country from Dodger Stadium.

12/18/24 After adding Tomoyuki Sugano, Orioles’ rotation is one big arm away | ANALYSIS. The addition of Tomoyuki Sugano improved the back end of the Orioles' rotation, but a hole at the top remains with Corbin Burnes a free agent.
