3/04/25 The solution to the Yankees' growing lineup issues is as clear as it may be painful to Hal Steinbrenner. The solution to the Yankees' growing lineup issues is as clear as it may be painful to Hal Steinbrenner By Joel Sherman Published March 4, 2025, 6:00 a.m. ET AP Recently, Hal Steinbrenner asked these questions: “Should I really need a $300-plus million payroll to win a championship? Does having a huge payroll really increase my chances that much of winning a championship?” The answers are yes and yes. And I think he has to raise that number even more — now. Even though the Yankees already project to a luxury tax payroll of roughly $305 million, and every dollar they spend moving forward is taxed at $1.10, I think they should count themselves fortunate that Jose Iglesias is still available in

3/01/25 Reese Kaplan -- No Superstar Fill-In Needed for Nick Madrigal. Now comes a similar look at middle infielders where the Mets are also having to address the vacancy caused by the departure of Jose Iglesias and the long term shoulder injury to newcomer Nick Madrigal. Now here the same salary swap scenario could work but it's unlikely to be the approach taken. For a quick refresher, the Mets could parlay an expiring $18.5 million Starling Marte contract or a halfway point $15.75 million contract to Jeff McNeil for 2025 and 2026 into a replacement from another ballclub. As a result, if it turned out that someone like Trevor Story was put on the block at a $25 million salary for the next three years, you could likely get the BoSox to pay down on the number but at his age and injury history would you want to make that deal?

2/26/25 A fluke? Mets free agent remains jobless, and one team reveals why. OMG, is Jose Iglesias going to enter the 2025 season without a job? Apparently, the good vibes he brought to the New York Mets with his hit single (“OMG”) and hustle can only take him so far. Days into spring training games, the infielder remains a free agent. The New York Post's Jon Heyman heard it's because teams may not believe in what they saw last season.

2/24/25 Jose Iglesias still not viewed as a fit for the Mets. Injuries have already begun to plague the New York Mets this spring and the calendar hasn't even reached March yet. After leaving Sunday's game against the Washington Nationals with a dislocated left shoulder, manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed on Monday that infielder Nick Madrigal fractured the shoulder and will be out "for a long time." New York signed Madrigal this offseason to a one-year deal. With the infielder not expected back anytime soon, veteran infielder Jose Iglesias has been frequently mentioned as the right player to fill in for Madrigal.

2/20/25 Mets have their reasons for Jose Iglesias reluctance. Jon Heyman Mets have their reasons for Jose Iglesias reluctance By Jon Heyman Published Feb. 20, 2025, 7:54 p.m. ET Corey Sipkin for the NY POST The Mets are reluctant to bring back Jose Iglesias despite his desire to return for a couple of reasons: 1) Jeff McNeil ($12 million a year) is thought to be untradeable, and 2) They have high regard and hopes for rookie Luisangel Acuña, who made a big impression late last year. The Brewers might be a good fit for Mr. OMG. J.D. Martinez is another who'd make sense for Milwaukee. The Mets' interest in José Quintana is limited due to metrics. Those metrics must not include his 3.11 ERA in the second half last year. NLDS game 4: Jose Iglesias #11 of the

Sanchez Published Feb. 17, 2025, 7:40 a.m. ET Charles Wenzelberg/NY Post Juan Soto arrived in Port St. Lucie on Sunday, donning the orange and blue that he is expected to wear for the next 15 years. His first words and swings of camp mark the beginning of an era that will be defined not by meaningful games in September but by championships. Pete Alonso is expected to join the club Monday, during the first full-squad workout, and it will be another day of optimism for an organization that spent the offseason marrying the lovable incumbents (Alonso, Sean Manaea and Jesse Winker, among others)

2/16/25 Jose Iglesias Pulling For Mets Reunion Amid Growing MLB Interest. One of the more unsung heroes of the New York Mets' resurgent 2024 season was shortstop and second baseman Jose Iglesias, whose hit song “OMG” became an anthem for the team and whose play on the field helped propel them to their deep postseason run. Iglesias quickly became a fan favorite in the Mets organization but remains an unsigned free agent as the 2025 season approaches, much to the ire of Mets fans. President of Baseball Operations David Stearn ruled out the possibility of an Iglesias return at a press conference this week, and now Iglesias is getting one hundred percent honest on the emotions that has caused him. “It hurts because we started something that definitely isn't finished yet,” Iglesias told Jon Heyman of the New York Post, per Logan VanDine of Sports Illustrated.

2/13/25 Mets turn the page on key player from 'OMG' team. On Wednesday, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns declared the Jose Iglesias era (pretty much) over. “I think where we are now for that role on our team, it's important for us to keep some avenues open for some of our younger players,” Stearns said. A few notable infielders present at Clover Park, the Mets' spring training complex, on Wednesday, include Brett Baty, Ronny Mauricio and Nick Madrigal, who signed with the team at the end of January.

2/12/25 Mets appear to finally shut door on reunion with Jose Iglesias. While the Mets still have the opportunity to re-sign veteran infielder Jose Iglesias before the regular season begins, it's now safe to say the "OMG" era belongs in the past as a fond memory.

2/12/25 The Mets can't afford to rely on just star power if they hope to reach World Series. beyond the back page The Mets can't afford to rely on just star power if they hope to reach World Series By Andrew Crane Published Feb. 12, 2025, 7:40 a.m. ET Jose Iglesias was one of the surprise breakouts of the Mets' 2024 season. Charles Wenzelberg/N.Y. Post Charles Wenzelberg/NY Post At this time last year, the veteran middle infielder associated with saving the Mets' season — first from a vibe standpoint, then from a production one — arrived at spring training in Port St. Lucie with nothing more than a minor-league deal, a one-year gap in his MLB résumé and a lengthy baseball career, which started back in 2011 when he debuted as a 21-year-old, stalled. Jose Iglesias' locker was the first
