6/28/25 A timeline of the Red Sox front office's dismantling of the 2018 team. The 2018 Boston Red Sox were the most successful regular-season team in franchise history. In 2019, despite bringing back the entire core of the team, the Red Sox only won 84 games and missed the playoffs. Then the tear-down started. John Henry wasn't willing to pay Mookie Betts the fair market contract he was asking for, looking for a team-friendly deal instead, and decided to trade him to try and retain some of the value.

6/26/25 'I need to own things that I could have done better.' Twenty months into his tenure, Craig Breslow takes stock of the Red Sox front office culture. In a now-familiar pattern (see Mookie Betts and Jon Lester), the trade of a Sox star served as a prelude to a bruising cycle that reflected poorly on the organization while lifting the curtain on broader cultural issues, many related to disconnects between Breslow and other parts of the organization. Sports report that amateur scout Carl Moesche, unaware his audio was turned on at the end of a Zoom featuring Breslow and a number of Red Sox staffers, signed off by saying, “Thanks, Bres, you [expletive] stiff.”
