4/28/21 Cleveland Indians designate Oliver Pérez for assignment; Nick Wittgren rejoins club from paternity list. Manager Terry Francona said he was having a tough time figuring out how to use the 39-year-old reliever in a bullpen mix that features several hard-throwing righties. For the most part, he was kind of pitching when we were in games that were spread out,” Francona said. That doesn’t necessarily fit the role you want for kind of a lefty specialist.

4/22/21 Peralta triples in 10th, has 7 RBIs; D-Backs beat Reds. Rougned Odor’s two-out, two-run single broke a seventh-inning tie — and maybe jarred New York from its hitting funk — and sent the Yankees to a win over Cleveland in the opener of a four-game series. Odor was batting just . and in a 3-for-28 slide when he came up against Nick Wittgren (0-1).

3/24/21 N&N: This is a post that contains a positive Jake Bauers fact. Plesac and Clase gave up a run per inning yesterday, but Nick Wittgren, Phil Maton and Bryan Shaw followed with 2.1 scoreless. On the hitting side, Jake Bauers of all people had 2 of the squad’s 5 hits. Seems like it was a real dud of a game.

12/23/20 N&N: Nick Wittgren gets some money. Wittgren was very good again last season, although Sandy Alomar seemed to think he had magic jam-exiting superpowers, which got the Indians burned a couple times. I would expect another good year from Wittgren in 2021, although relief pitchers are as hard to predict as any pro athletes. Around baseball • Sam Fuld is now the general manager of the Phillies.

12/22/20 Cleveland, Nick Wittgren avoid arbitration with $2 million deal. Cleveland has successfully avoided the messy arbitration court process with at least one player after agreeing to a $2 million deal to keep Nick Wittgren in town through 2021. Wittgren, 29, was acquired prior to the 2019 season after being designated for assignment by the Marilns. In two years and 81.1 innings since, he has been a consistent success for managers Terry Francona and Sandy Alomar Jr., even quietly being a weapon in clutch situations for the team.

11/10/20 Scott's 2020-2021 Offseason Plan, But For Real This Time. Nick Wittgren (pick-up): I thought he was a low-key steal from Miami and would like to see him continue to be found money for the bullpen. Contract options: Carlos Santana (decline): This one hurts. In my pre-saber days I thought Los was deadweight, over time I came to appreciate his hidden value as a master of the walk and underrated defense at 1B. Now, I love the guy.
