It's been a struggle to start the season for Chicago Cubs reliever Yency Almonte after he was acquired by the team in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers this offseason. Yency Almonte set high expectations for himself heading into the 2023 season after a breakout in 2022 that saw him become one of the most trusted arms in the Los Angeles Dodgers' bullpen. Almonte was of course on the Opening Day roster, but March and April proved to be a struggle for him as he pitched 11.2 innings with a 8.49 ERA. Following that time, Almonte started to pitch better in May as he limited hitters to a .175/.250/.425 line, but he still allowed seven runs in his 11.1 innings during the month.
