2/19/24 Astros Owner Makes Appearance For Full Squad Workout. Houston Astros Owner Makes Appearance For Team's First Full Squad Workout Even the big boss is excited to see how the Houston Astros look entering the upcoming season. Author: Brad Wakai Publish date: Feb 19, 2024 11:00 AM EST In this story: Houston Astros There is a lot of buzz surrounding the Houston Astros and this upcoming season. After being eliminated by their division and in-state rival Texas Rangers in the American League Championship Series, the front office became much more aggressive than anticipated this winter. They seemingly had a limited budget to work with, resulting in a few additions, but nothing major. That changed when Kendall Graveman went down with a likely season ending

10/15/23 Houston reliever Graveman won't be on ALCS roster against Texas because of shoulder problem. Houston Astros reliever Kendall Graveman won't be on the AL Championship Series roster against the Texas Rangers because of right shoulder discomfort. The right-hander missed the Division Series with the problem but had hoped that he could recover in time for the next round. Instead, manager Dusty Baker said Saturday that “he's not improved” and Graveman wouldn't be on the roster for the series, which begins Sunday night. Graveman, who was acquired in a trade with the White Sox in July, was 2-2 with a 2.42 ERA in 23 appearances for Houston this season.

8/01/23 M's, shaking off closer's exit, chase another win over Red Sox. The Seattle Mariners have been through this before. Two years ago, the Mariners traded closer Kendall Graveman to the American League West rival Houston Astros, an unpopular move as Seattle was one game back in the wild-card race while trying to end a 20-year playoff drought. Before Seattle's6-2 victory against the visiting Boston Red Sox on Monday, the Mariners sent closer Paul Sewald to the Arizona Diamondbacks for three players.

7/29/23 Meet the New Guy: Korey Lee. The Chicago White Sox continued their midseason re-tool on Friday afternoon by trading right-handed reliever Kendall Graveman to the Astros for former First Round pick, catcher Korey Lee. Lee trudged through his first two years of college ball posting middling offensive statistics, unable to get regular reps on a talented California Golden Bears ball club. In 2019, he began to see regular playing time at catcher and rewarded Cal by making the most of his increased opportunities. In 51 games, Lee slashed .337/.416/.619 for an OPS north of 1.000 in his first season as an everyday Golden Bears player.

7/28/23 Reports: White Sox deal relief pitcher Kendall Graveman to Astros. It's been a busy trade deadline season for the Chicago White Sox, and it's continued with a vengeance on Friday afternoon as the South Siders have reportedly struck another deal.

6/28/23 Yankees potential trade partner: Chicago White Sox. Barring a catastrophic next month, the Yankees, of course, will be buying, but the White Sox find themselves in a weird position. With the division still just one red-hot streak away and a front office whose seats are hotter than they've ever been in their nearly 25-year tenure, the Sox will be under tremendous pressure to stand pat or even buy. A playoff team can never have enough good relievers, and in spite of their disaster of a season, the White Sox have quite the stable of high-octane bullpenners coming in at a variety of contract and career stages, and cost. Kendall Graveman (owed $8 million next season) and Joe Kelly ($4 million buyout of a $9.5 million club option) both have arsenals that would be at home in Matt Blake's repertoire, each armed with a high-90s four-seamer/sinker combo as well as multiple breaking balls.

6/17/23 Back in Seattle with White Sox, Kendall Graveman looks back on surprising trade to Astros. If you wanted to recite all the trades Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto has made since coming to Seattle, you might need to block out a whole weekend to do so. Perhaps the most emotional one came toward the end of July in 2021, when Dipoto sent the Mariners' top reliever at the time, Kendall Graveman, (along with struggling pitcher Rafael Montero) to the Astros in exchange for infielder Abraham Toro and reliever Joe Smith when the Mariners were in the thick of a playoff hunt.

3/31/23 Astros, Yordan Alvarez rally from three-run deficit to defeat White Sox. The White Sox were nicely positioned for a 2-0 start. How big would that have been for a team aiming to erase the stench of 2022 and facing a rough April schedule starting with four games in Houston against the Astros. “I'd take 2-0 against anybody,” Sox reliever Kendall Graveman said after the Astros rallied against him and left-hander Jake Diekman for a 6-3 win Friday at Minute Maid Park. With a 3-0 lead and Lance Lynn on the mound, a 2-0 start was there for the taking.

3/26/23 What's the Chicago White Sox plan for relief in late innings in the absence of closer Liam Hendriks?. Kendall Graveman noticed something different with his performance Friday against the Oakland Athletics at Hohokam Stadium. “The first couple outings I had (this spring) were rough, I mean I found every barrel in Maricopa County,” the White Sox reliever joked . Graveman pitched a scoreless ninth inning in the 12-0 victory, his first appearance with the team since returning from the World Baseball Classic. The right-hander is one of the late-inning options for the Sox in the absence of Liam Hendriks, who announced in January he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

2/17/23 Column: Chicago White Sox know they have work to do to regain fans' trust. Kendall Graveman greeted the media in the clubhouse by complimenting them on their smiles, a reference to MLB's decision to end the mask-wearing regulations for reporters from the COVID-19 pandemic. Liam Hendriks's bout with cancer was also on everyone's mind, as was the upcoming World Baseball Classic, which made Graveman get teary-eyed when discussing his selection to Team USA.

1/28/23 White Sox 'have plenty of options' to fill closer void. Meanwhile, as the shock over the 33-year-old Hendriks’ health slowly subsides, the Sox approach the first day of spring training Feb. 15 with a bullpen missing its two-time American League reliever of the year. Kendall Graveman (16 career saves, including six last season, when Hendriks had 37) is probably the favorite to close. Joe Kelly (six career saves) and perhaps Reynaldo Lopez (none) could be asked to record the final three outs of games.

12/20/22 Five Win-Win MLB Trades for All-Star Players. He’s established himself as one of MLB’s best closers after appearing at the last three All-Star Games and he even has a pair of top-10 Cy Young finishes over the past three years. The 33-year-old Aussie should have little trouble handling the media pressure in New York. The White Sox, on the other hand, could let Kendall Graveman slide into the closer role in Hendriks’s absence.

12/04/22 Oops! All Astros: Rafael Montero. Through his first six major league seasons (four with New York, two with the Texas Rangers), he was 8-17 with a 4.93 ERA, a 1.565 WHIP, and 9.1 K/9. After starting the 2021 campaign at 5-3 with a 7.27 ERA, a 1.638 WHIP, and only 7.7 K/9 through 40 contests with the Seattle Mariners, he joined the Astros via trade. He arrived along with Kendall Graveman for Abraham Toro and Joe Smith.
