2/19/24 Major League Baseball: Rea eager to prove himself all over again in Brewers' camp. Colin Rea approached this offseason with the work ethic and motivation of a pitcher with no guarantees heading into spring training. In November, Rea earned a one-year contract with a club option for 2025 and performance-based incentives in both seasons after serving as a versatile and durable piece who helped the Milwaukee Brewers overcome a rash of injuries to win the National League Central Division championship.

1/04/24 Matt Arnold continues to utilize Brewers' prospect depth in offseason trades. The Brewers have not made any flashy moves this offseason, but the club has been relatively active compared to other teams in a slow winter. In addition to re-signing starting pitchers Colin Rea and Wade Miley, Matt Arnold and company have swung seven trades in a two-month span. The Brewers shipped out Mark Canha, Adrian Houser and Tyrone Taylor for pitching prospects, packaging the latter two in the same deal.

11/17/23 Milwaukee Brewers Free Agent & Trade Targets: Starting Pitching. The Brewers had one of baseball's better starting rotations by ERA in 2023, finishing sixth in the sport with a 3.94 mark. Injuries, free-agent departures and potential trades leave the rotation looking much thinner for next season. The Brewers already shored up some innings by re-signing Colin Rea at the start of the offseason, but they will presumably continue to look externally for more rotation help. Here are some candidates on the free agent and trade markets.

11/03/23 Colin Rea stays with Milwaukee Brewers, agrees to $4.5 million 1-year contract. Right-hander Colin Rea stayed with the Milwaukee Brewers rather than explore the free-agent market, agreeing Thursday to a $4.5 million, one-year contract that could be worth up to $10 million over two seasons. Rea gets a $3.5 million salary next season, and the deal includes a $5.5 million team option for 2025 with a $1 million buyout. If the 2025 option is declined, Rea's contract specifies he can become a free agent. After making just one major league appearance in 2021 and spending last season with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in Japan's Central League, Rea agreed to a $1.5 million, one-year deal with the Brewers and went 6-6 with a 4.55 ERA in 26 games.
