The Syracuse Mets faltered late in Thursday night's ballgame, dropping a 9-1 decision to the Columbus Clippers on a chilly evening at NBT Bank Stadium. The Clippers still trail the series two games to one after the Mets won on Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Early on, Syracuse (12-10) received another strong start from Joey Lucchesi who navigated through some potential choppy waters to allow just two runs (one earned) on six hits in five innings, walking two and striking out three. | 3/15/24 | Mets option Joey Lucchesi to Triple-A as Opening Day roster comes into view. PORT ST. LUCIE — Joey Lucchesi began camp behind other Mets pitchers in terms of offseason build-up and ultimately got left in the rearview. The left-hander was optioned to Triple-A on Friday, as the team began rationing innings for pitchers. Lucchesi pitched just once in the Grapefruit League, on Tuesday when he allowed four earned runs on four hits and a walk over 1 ¹/3 innings against the Nationals. Lucchesi initially was a candidate to replace injured Kodai Senga in the starting rotation. He will now continue lengthening out in the minor leagues.
