5/16/24 Mets reliever who was nearing return suffers setback. The Mets will have to wait a little while longer for Drew Smith to be activated off the injured list. Before playing the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday Mets manager Carlos Mendoza revealed that Smith had suffered a setback. As a result, the team decided called up Grant Hartwig to add length to the bullpen from Triple-A Syracuse. “Yesterday, after he played catch, this is right before the game, he came in and said something to the trainers,” Mendoza said.

3/08/24 Mets reliever Drew Smith looking to manage the 'roller coaster' of baseball better in '24. For Drew Smith, the highs and lows of 2023 were extreme. The Mets had turned to the right-hander in important innings in 2022. Last year, with Edwin Diaz down, they went to him in even more important spots. Smith had to learn some lessons the hard way.

3/05/24 How the Mets are using mysterious secret lab to gain pitching edge. One day after the New York Mets saw their season come to a close, pitchers Drew Smith and Brooks Raley immediately got to work on improving their mechanics. How they accomplished that was by using what the Mets think is their secret weapon; a state-of-the-art research facility that the team uses as their 'pitching lab.' Smith already had reverted to his Ferris wheel style of pitching, but seeing the data that informed him his proper delivery was back, which gave hope for his velocity and slider, was encouraging. “That's where I saw that my mechanics were better,” Smith said, per Mark Sanchez of the NY Post.

According to The New York Post's Mike Puma, right-hander Drew Smith is a candidate to be traded. “Mets have been talking to teams potentially interested in Drew Smith ahead of tonight's deadline to tender contracts to arbitration eligible players,” Puma wrote on X. While the Mets don't have to reach an agreement with Smith today, they must tender him a contract by 8 p.m. or he will become a free agent.

8/08/23 Jameson Taillon, Mike Tauchman sink Mets as Cubs even up series, 3-2. The good vibes didn’t keep on rolling Tuesday at Citi Field. Mike Tauchman’s go-ahead solo homer off of Drew Smith in the top of the eighth inning proved to be the difference as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Mets, 3-2, in the second of a three-game set. The low-scoring affair needed only one late-inning swing as the Amazins’ had no answer for former Yankee Jameson Taillon. Taillon put together ...

6/22/23 Drew's dumb decision. The Mets' season has been plagued by a plethora of mental and physical errors. Last Tuesday, in the first game of the Subway Series, that was on full display when relief pitcher Drew Smith was tossed from the game before even throwing a pitch. The umpiring crew claimed Smith was using sticky substances on his hands and glove that were not in accordance with Major League Baseball rules. Smith saw how his teammate, pitcher Max Scherzer, was suspended for 10 games earlier this season for that infraction, and undoubtedly heard about Yankees pitcher Domingo German getting the same sentence.

6/21/23 Mets Notebook: Buck Showalter navigating through his shorthanded bullpen during Drew Smith ban. HOUSTON — Drew Smith is now more than halfway through his 10-game sticky substance suspension and the Mets have been able to get through it with relative success. It hasn’t been easy playing with one fewer bullpen arm, but some of the starting pitchers are finally starting to go deep into games on a somewhat consistent basis. Carlos Carrasco blew up Sunday and lasted only three innings, but ...
