6/29/25 Four Potential Houston Astros Targets in First Round of 2025 MLB Draft. The Houston Astros have managed to survive another roster shift as they lead the AL West following a ton of change. With the Astros still looking like a contending squad with some intriguing young(er) pieces like Yordan Alvarez, Isaac Paredes and Cam Smith, they should still be trying to build to win now. The best way to do that in the draft is to take college players early, in hopes of a quick turnaround. Smith, for instance, played just over 30 games in the minors.

6/25/25 Yordan Alvarez Swinging Again As Astros Deal With Ongoing Injury Issues. Houston Astros currently have 13 on their injury list, but they've got to be excited to see on the newest updates that Yordan Alvarez is swinging a bat. Astros journalist at the Athletic, Chandler Rome, gave a full breakdown to the status of those who are on the list. J.P. France, Luis Garcia, and Christian Javier have all thrown 20 or more pitches in a live batting practice.

6/25/25 Astros, thriving without missing slugger, seek another win vs. Phillies. Houston slugger Yordan Alvarez missed his 48th game on Tuesday with a right hand fracture, an extended stint on the injured list that seemingly should have undermined the Astros' hopes. The teams will meet again Wednesday in Houston, and the Astros again will rely on a variety of contributors.

6/23/25 Astros Get Outfield Help by Activating Former First-Round Pick off IL. For a couple of months now, the one weakness people have pointed to in when it comes to the Houston Astros has been their lack of left-handed hitters. Not having Yordan Alvarez has been a major blow for them, and even though they have found ways to win that has them comfortably sitting on top of the AL West division once again, it's hard to imagine they won't struggle in the playoffs based on being so right-handed dominant. General manager Dana Brown has publicly stated as much, which means they are going to be scouring everywhere for possible deals that will create a more well-rounded roster. Before the Astros start giving up assets, though, they just got a major reinforcement.

6/21/25 Former MLB Exec Shares Trades Astros' AL West Rivals Can Make at Deadline. The Houston Astros are currently sitting atop the American League West with a record of 43-32. They are five games clear of the Seattle Mariners, who are in second place with a record of 37-36, and 6.5 games ahead of the Los Angeles Angels, who are in third with a 36-38 mark. The Astros have done a great job building this early lead, but there is plenty of work left to do. Several obstacles have popped up recently for the team to overcome, such as injuries to key players on the roster. 6/20/25 What Are Astros' AL West Rivals Predicted To Do Ahead of Trade Deadline?. Once again, the Houston Astros have put themselves in a position to compete for and win an AL West title, with them owning a five-game lead entering play on Friday. It feels like there is another gear this team can reach, too, since they have been decimated by injuries throughout the season and haven't gotten close to expected contributions from Yordan Alvarez, Christian Walker or Jose Altuve. Because of that, it will be interesting to see what the Astros do ahead of the deadline this year. In the past, the position they are currently in would suggest that Houston will be buyers before July 31, but they could also easily wait it out to see if their upgrades come from internal production.

6/18/25 Astros get good news on Yordan Alvarez amid injury recovery. The Houston Astros have been staying afloat while their superstar slugger, Yordan Alvarez, sits on the injured list. While the team is atop the American League West, getting Alvarez back into the lineup would be a huge boost to the team's confidence and offense. Astros writer Michael Schwab shared on Twitter/X that during an interview on the Sean Unfiltered show, Dana Brown provided a positive update on the injury recovery of Alvarez.

6/15/25 Ranking Most Likely Astros Trade Deadline Targets Listed by Former MLB Executive. It didn't seem like this would be the case a couple of months ago, but the Houston Astros now find themselves in the familiar territory of looking around at potential acquirable assets before the trade deadline. With a 40-30 record entering Sunday that is even more remarkable when considering all the injuries they have suffered, the Astros will likely try to bolster their roster once again. Jim Bowden of The Athletic (subscription required) thinks that any left-handed hitter is the biggest need for Houston, and it's hard to argue with that. Since Yordan Alvarez went down with his injury, the Astros have only had one left-handed bat in their lineup -- switch-hitting Victor Caratini -- before they called up the now-injured Jacob Melton.

6/14/25 Astros Calling Up Outfielder Who Was Their Spring Training Standout. As the Houston Astros continue to play some great baseball, they have recently selected the contract of a player who will hopefully help them in the outfield. While the Astros have had a great season so far, they need a boost offensively. With veterans like Yordan Alvarez injured and Christian Walker and Jose Altuve struggling, the unit has been lackluster at times. Fortunately, youngsters Isaac Paredes and Jeremy Pena have been good enough to cover up for some of the issues.

6/13/25 Former MLB Exec Shares His Favorite Target for Astros Ahead of Trade Deadline. The Houston Astros have caught fire in recent weeks despite some major obstacles to overcome. Arrighetti is at least going to come back this year, but the other two both underwent season-ending procedures on their elbow. In the lineup, they have been without star designated hitter Yordan Alvarez, who hasn't played since May 2 and was diagnosed with a fracture in his hand earlier this month. With just over a month until the MLB trade deadline, the Astros should be very active in seeking upgrades to keep their playoff streak alive.

6/13/25 Astros urged to trade for Orioles' left-handed slugger. The Houston Astros need on their roster to add another bat to the lineup. With Yordan Alvarez out due to a hand injury, which is seemingly not getting any better, the Astros need to find a solution to their left-handed hitting woes. Kenneth Teape of Sports Illustrated presented a solution for the Astros, urging the Astros to swing a deal for Baltimore Orioles first baseman and outfielder Ryan O'Hearn. "Houston should be making calls to get a deal done for O'Hearn right away," Teape writes.

6/12/25 Houston Astros Should Check on Trading for Orioles Left-Handed Slugger. The Houston Astros have been thriving over the last few weeks despite not having arguably their best hitter in the lineup. Designated hitter Yordan Alvarez has not played since May 2 because of a hand injury and it was revealed earlier this month he is dealing with a fracture. With no timetable revealed for his return, the Astros have been fortunate enough to have some of their players step up and perform in his absence. Shortstop Jeremy Pena and third baseman Isaac Paredes are both playing like All-Stars, producing some impressive numbers.
