5/12/24 Rockies aim to record first series sweep in finale vs. Rangers. Colorado will go for its fourth straight victory when it deploys right-hander Dakota Hudson (0-6, 6.35 ERA) against Rangers righty Jose Urena (1-2, 3.86) in Sunday's series finale. "Our whole team is just focusing on playing more team baseball," said Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon, who tied his career high with four hits in Colorado's 8-3 win on Saturday. Late-inning rallies fueled both of the Rockies' first two victories over Texas. On Friday, Charlie Blackmon raced home from first base on an error to tie the game at 2-2 in the seventh inning.

5/06/24 Rockies seek glimmer of hope in series opener vs. Giants. The Colorado Rockies expected to have growing pains as they rebuild with younger players, but the lessons have been hard. Colorado has just eight victories, has yet to win consecutive games this season and has trailed in all but one of its 34 games. Things don't get easier when the Rockies host the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday to begin a three-game series in Denver. Colorado will send right-hander Dakota Hudson (0-5, 5.93 ERA) to the mound to oppose Giants lefty Kyle Harrison (2-1, 3.79).

5/01/24 Rockies lose again in Miami, fall to 7-23 and tie franchise record for trailing in consecutive games at any point in a season. The Colorado club that is becoming nearly impossible to watch lost again on Wednesday at loanDepot Park, dropping to 7-23 in the club's worst-ever 30-game start. In the 4-1 defeat in Game 2 in Miami, the Rockies wasted a strong outing by Dakota Hudson and, in a familiar refrain, lacked clutch hits. “We've got to keep fighting,” Rockies manager Bud Black told reporters. After that, Jake Bird got Colorado out of the sixth and threw a scoreless seventh, but then Nick Mears was dinged for two runs in the eighth off Dane Myers' two-RBI single.

4/25/24 Rockies turn to winless Dakota Hudson in finale vs. Padres. Dakota Hudson earned the final spot in the Colorado Rockies' rotation to start the season. The right-hander still is looking for his first victory with Colorado, however. Hudson (0-4, 5.06 ERA) will bid for that elusive first win when the Rockies wrap up a four-game series against the San Diego Padres on Thursday afternoon. San Diego will send right-hander Randy Vasquez (0-1, 1.80) to the mound to try to leave Denver with a series win.

4/13/24 Rockies' rough first inning costs them in 5-3 loss to Blue Jays. The beginning was the end for the Rockies. Starter Dakota Hudson went south in the first inning when the Blue Jays took a 5-0 lead. Although the Rockies rallied and Hudson pitched well after the first, the damage was done. The Blue Jays, powered by Daulton Varsho's grand slam, prevailed, 5-3, Saturday at Rogers Centre.

3/15/24 Rockies Journal: Assessing the starting rotation as regular season nears. With less than two weeks remaining before the Rockies' season-opener on March 28 at Chase Field against the defending National League champion Diamondbacks, the Rockies' starting rotation is almost set. The final spot appears to be between right-handers Dakota Hudson and Peter Lambert. For the Rockies to have any chance to improve from a franchise-worst 103-loss season, the starters have to stay healthy and pitch deeper into games. Colorado starters posted a 5.91 ERA last season, the highest in the majors and the second-highest in franchise history behind the 1999 team (6.19).

1/18/24 Thursday Rockpile: The Rockies are getting their ideal backup catcher in Jacob Stallings. As the quiet offseason of the Colorado Rockies continues and with less than a month until pitchers and catchers report to the team's complex in Arizona, the winter is still marked by a now several weeks old signing. The Rockies signed right-handed pitcher Dakota Hudson and catcher Jacob Stallings to one year contracts on January 5th. The Rockies had shown interest in Stallings dating back to the Winter Meetings, and his connection with Rockies special assistant Clint Hurdle and current starting catcher Elias Díaz was appealing to the team.

1/15/24 Monday Rockpile: Three rental bats that could fit the Rockies' needs. Although the Colorado Rockies roster is generally set for the 2024 season after the signings of SP Dakota Hudson and C Jacob Stallings to one-year deals, there is still some room for negotiation on the roster. Colorado does not figure to be a player for a bigger-name option as expectations are low. Last week, Skyler Timmins already covered some of the depth options remaining on the market that could be a fit for Colorado's potential vacancy. While that may be the likely avenue the front office travels if they do indeed make an acquisition, that is not the only option.

1/10/24 Wednesday Rockpile: Let's find a left handed outfield depth free agents. When the Los Angeles Dodgers are deferring all kinds of money into the next decade, it's been fairly slow for many teams about MLB. The Rockies were one of three remaining teams that hadn't spent a cent in free agency on talent for the big league roster until they signed Dakota Hudson and Jacob Stallings to one-year deals. While the moves check off a couple of boxes for the Rockies brass in 2024, MLB.com's Thomas Harding dropped another interesting nugget of info on what the Rockies may hope to do next for the coming season. Found in his regular newsletter, Harding writes, “The next expected piece is also likely a low-profile one, but one that can make a difference: A depth outfielder, preferably a left-handed hitter who can play all three positions.”

1/08/24 Monday Rockpile: The Rockies need to be prepared for a possible shot at Roki Sasaki next winter. The recent signings of Dakota Hudson and Jacob Stallings to one-year deals has likely provided the Colorado Rockies with their most active day (week? There may be a surprise deal involving one of the club's tenured infielders – Ryan McMahon and Brendan Rodgers – that could provide a significant reshaping of the roster, but there is no evidence of any deal in that sphere in the works. Significant moves have been made by the rest of the west – and the National League as a whole – while the Rockies have stuck to their modest off-season agenda. No club has grabbed the headlines more than the Los Angeles Dodgers, who signed two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani to a groundbreaking $700MM contract that is disproportionately split over two decades.
