3/02/24	Emerson Hancock has strong start, but A's rough up Mariners' bullpen. The Mariners two projected long relievers for their bullpen had less than ideal outings in back-to-back innings. Right-hander Trent Thornton was roughed up in a third inning he didn't finish. After an error on third baseman Dylan Moore allowed the leadoff runner to reach, Thornton gave up a two-run homer off the batter's eye in center field to Kyle McCann. DUNEDIN, FLA.—The Blue Jays have come a long way in the last five years, especially with their starting rotation, and they're planning to bring back the 2023 pitching staff this season hoping for a repeat of the greatness that led them to a 3.85 ERA, third in the majors. It was just 2019 when the Jays used a club-record 21 starting pitchers, led by Trent Thornton, who got the ball to begin a game 29 times. The group included such memorable names as Buddy Boshers, Neil Ramirez, Wilmer Font and Ryan Feierabend. 1/30/24	Better know your Blue Jays 40-man: Génesis Cabrera. Génesis Cabrera came to the Jays in a July 23rd trade with the Cardinals. Going to the Cardinals was a 19-year-old minor league catcher. Hernandez was a 14th-round draft pick in 2022. He hit .216/.311/.387 in 58 games split between Dunedin, the Jays Florida Coast League team, the Cardinals Florida Coast League team and the Cardinals A league team. We also lost Trent Thornton in the deal. He was DFAed to make room for Cabrera and traded to the Mariners for 28-year-old minor leaguer Mason McCoy (who played in six games and had one at-bat for the Jays). Thornton had a 2.08 ERA in 26 innings with the Mariners. Génesis is a 27-year-old lefty who has pitched in the majors in five seasons. 9/19/23	Mariners' pitching staff sets new franchise record in Oakland. When right-hander Trent Thornton fired a slider to Nick Allen that resulted in a ground ball to J.P. Crawford for the final out of Monday's 5-0 victory, the Mariners' pitching staff had made club history. It was the 16th time this season that Seattle had shut out an opponent, which surpassed the previous franchise record of 15 set in 2003. “It was brought to my attention after the game,” manager Scott Servais said. 9/09/23	Seattle Mariners lose in walkoff fashion as Tampa Bay Rays work harder, faster, better, stronger. The Seattle Mariners played game three of a four game set against a Tampa Bay Rays team with a better record and ahead of them in the wild card standings, and despite the Mariners best efforts the Rays were ultimately smarter and harder working, Seattle losing with a score of 5-7. Taking on the opening role would be midseason addition Trent Thornton. Before Thornton would get a chance to throw a single pitch, the offense was working hard early, a smart move against a scrappy Rays team. 7/26/23	Blue Jays trade Trent Thornton to Mariners for minor leaguer Mason McCoy. Right-handed reliever Trent Thornton has been traded by the Toronto Blue Jays to the Seattle Mariners. Infielder Mason McCoy was sent to Toronto in return. McCoy was assigned to the Blue Jays triple-A affiliate in Buffalo, N.Y. 5/09/23	Jays Lose to Phillies. Blue Jays 4 Phillies 8 Until the bottom of the eighth, it looked like we had a chance. Trent Thornton, who got the last out of the sixth and then struck out the side in the seventh, ran out of gas in the eighth. In the eighth, he gave up a walk (one ball was on a 'pitch clock' violation. Trent didn't throw his last warmup pitch in time, apparently), single and walk to start the inning. That ended his night. Erik Swanson came in and gave up a 2-run double. Another run scored on a ground ball to second, with Espinal throwing to the plate just a little late. We went from down by 1 to down by 4 in a hurry. 12/07/22	Report: Former Astros' Díaz Agrees to Multi-Year Contract with A's. Aledmys Díaz will play in the American League West the next two seasons but not with the Houston Astros. The utilityman is reportedly in agreement on a two-year contract in the ranged of $14 million with the Oakland Athletics, pending physicals, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post. After allowing 14 earned runs over his previous two starts, Berríos gave up two runs and eight hits in five innings to earn his first victory since June 10 at Kansas City. Berríos (6-4) is 4-0 with a 3.23 ERA in seven home starts, but 2-4 with a 7.92 ERA in nine road starts. Blue Jays’ Starter The Blue Jays are expected to go with a tandem tonight, starting with Trent Thornton for a couple innings, before skipping over to Anthony Kay for a few more.
