5/04/24 Red Sox offseason trade with Royals is already looking awful for Boston. The Boston Red Sox made a trade early in spring training that was meant to bolster their young pitching depth. The exchange hasn't worked in the Red Sox's favor so far. Boston and the Kansas City Royals swapped two pitchers on Feb. 17. The Royals received righty reliever John Schreiber and the Sox got David Sandlin, a young righty with big-league starter potential.

3/09/24 Red Sox trade acquisition from John Schreiber deal already impressing fans. The Boston Red Sox farm system is highly-ranked and carries many talented players, but the organization's biggest need is severely underrepresented on the farm — starting pitching. Early in spring training on Feb. 17, the Red Sox made a move to address some of their minor-league pitching deficiencies. John Schreiber had a breakout season for the big-league club in 2022 and it seemed like he was going to grow into a key piece for Boston's bullpen. For as helpful as Schreiber was, the Red Sox do not need bullpen pieces.

3/06/24 Pitcher Red Sox Traded For Brings Heat With Triple-Digit Fastball. The Boston Red Sox acquired David Sandlin from the Kansas City Royals last month knowing the pitching prospect's fastball could touch the upper-90s. Sandlin told MassLive's Christopher Smith that he threw 100 mph during an offseason workout, which was the first time he saw triple digits on the radar gun. “That's the hardest pitch I've thrown and then I dialed it back realizing it was the first week of February and I've got a little bit still to go until the season,” Sandlin said. The Red Sox obviously see plenty of potential in Sandlin that they traded productive reliever John Schreiber to obtain him.

3/06/24 Red Sox 'sleeper' prospect from trade in Feb. reached 100 mph in offseason. The fastball velocity David Sandlin has added since entering professional ball is one of the things that excited the Red Sox the most when they acquired the righty from the Royals for reliever John Schreiber on Feb. 17. Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow pointed out that Sandlin pitched in the low-90s in college but he has been up to 98-99 mph with his heater in the pros while sitting in the 95-97 mph range. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder began his collegiate career at Eastern Oklahoma State College before transferring to Oklahoma.

2/25/24 Ex-Red Sox Reliever 'Excited' For New Start With Royals In 2024. John Schreiber will join a Kansas City Royals team that compiled 106 losses last season after an impressive breakout run with the Boston Red Sox. Schreiber, 29, spent three seasons in Boston and recorded a 2.90 ERA through 114 2/3 innings pitched, which included two starts. This opened up an opportunity for Schreiber to get acclimated in a new setting, which he's all for this upcoming season and beyond. “Being with the Red Sox organization for a few years obviously you're going to miss a lot of people that you've known over the last few years,” Schreiber told reporters at spring training.

2/23/24 Red Sox Roster Projection 1.0: Boston Relying On Youth In 2024. As the Boston Red Sox started their slate of spring training games on Friday, the team took the next step toward Opening Day, which is just under a month away in Seattle against the Mariners on March 28. Since originally projecting the Opening Day lineup, starting rotation and bullpen, the Red Sox have made a few moves to alter the 26-man group they will likely trot out to start the season. In recent days, the Red Sox traded reliever John Schreiber to the Kansas City Royals while signing former All-Star closer Liam Hendriks to a two-year deal.

2/18/24 Royals Were 'Pushing Hard' To Acquire Red Sox Reliever. Sign In The Kansas City Royals on Saturday acquired a veteran reliever they apparently had their eye on. John Schreiber was traded from the Red Sox to the Royals in exchange for pitching prospect David Sandlin. While speaking with reporters in Fort Myers, Fla., Red Sox manager Alex Cora said the Royals showed interest in Schreiber for some time. “He's going to an organization that has done some things in the offseason, adding some veterans in the rotation,” Cora told reporters, per MassLive's Chris Cotillo. “They've been pushing hard to get him and they finally did.” Story continues below advertisement more mlb 'Flustered' John Schreiber Salutes Red Sox After Trade To Royals by Adam London 2

2/17/24 MLB Rumors: John Schreiber Traded from Red Sox to Royals for David Sandlin. The Boston Red Sox have moved on from one of the key members of their 2023 bullpen by trading John Schreiber to the Kansas City Royals. Per ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Red Sox will receive minor-league pitcher David Sandlin from Kansas City in exchange for Schreiber. Schreiber was entering his fourth season with the Red Sox after being claimed off waivers in February 2021. In 28 appearances with the Tigers across the 2019 and 2020 seasons, Schreiber posted a 6.28 ERA with 35 hits and five homers allowed in 28.2 innings.

1/16/24 2023 In Review: John Schreiber. John Schreiber continued to experiment with his arsenal in 2023, and while this and a shoulder injury possibly caused a slight departure from 2022's pristine production, he still proved to be a viable option in the bullpen. The Red Sox bullpen was much more dependable in 2023 than 2022's historically bad, painful-to-watch campaign, and Schreiber, boasting an ERA under four, was one of the reasons why. Despite Schreiber dealing with shoulder tightness for most of 2023, he still had reasonably good numbers, at least good enough to have many pencilling him in as a high-leverage option in 2024. Plus, his slider, which he's going to more often (more on that later) has been successful to the tune of a .185 batting average and four extra base hits against in 308 pitches.

10/29/23 Red Sox Pitcher Shows Off Developing Pitch In Offseason Workout. Sign In Even in a down season, the Boston Red Sox featured a talented bullpen with a number of quality leverage relievers. With time to improve in the offseason, one pitcher is getting to work to add another pitch to his arsenal. John Schreiber posted a 3.86 ERA in 46 appearances this season to add to backend arms such as Josh Winckowski, Chris Martin and Kenley Jansen. With still room to grow, the 29-year-old is working on a cutter this offseason to further attacks hitters and offer a number of looks on the mound. In a new workout video with Driveline Baseball, Schreiber details the grip, the action of the pitch from his arm slot and what he hopes to find in adding the cutter. Story continues

8/15/23 Stacked, healthy Red Sox bullpen reminding Alex Cora of 2018 postseason run. The 2023 Red Sox, a generally middling group attempting to sneak into the final American League wild card spot, has done little to resemble the 2018 team that steamrolled its way through a 108-win regular season and World Series title. Cora said his current bullpen structure — which includes high-leverage righties John Schreiber, Josh Winckowski, Chris Martin, lefty Brennan Bernardino and multi-inning weapons Garrett Whitlock and Chris Murphy ahead of closer Kenley Jansen — is better than any group of relievers he has had in any of his five regular seasons as manager.

7/25/23 Dodgers Trade Rumors: Kiké Hernández Talks Being Held With Red Sox. With the Boston Red Sox facing a roster crunch due to a surplus of infielders, it's fueled speculation the team would look to complete a Kiké Hernández trade. A decision could come as soon as Tuesday afternoon as the Red Sox expect to activate John Schreiber off the 60-day injured list.

7/21/23 Key Red Sox reliever will be activated soon; Chris Sale throws again. The Red Sox are expecting a handful of key pitchers to return from the injured list in the coming weeks. The first to come back will be reliever John Schreiber. Schreiber is back with the Red Sox after a rehab assignment and is expected to be activated either Sunday or Tuesday, manager Alex Cora said Friday. While it's possible Schreiber returns to the bullpen for Boston's series finale against the Mets, it's more likely he returns for the opener of a two-game set against the Braves on Tuesday night.

7/08/23 Red Sox' Tanner Houck, recovering after getting hit in the face by a line drive, is taking steps to return to the mound. The Sox haven't decided what Houck's role will be when he returns. In 13 starts this season, Houck posted a 5.05 ERA. “The rest of my body feels great,” Houck said. Reliever John Schreiber, fresh off the first rehab appearance in his career, said he felt good after pitching two-thirds of an inning for Triple A Worcester Friday as he continues his recovery from a right teres major strain.

6/27/23 Here's When Red Sox's Key Bullpen Piece Is Eligible To Return From Injury. Here's When Red Sox's Key Bullpen Piece Is Eligible To Return From Injury Boston will wait a few weeks for one of their top arms Author: Stephen Mottram Publish date: Jun 27, 2023 7:29 PM EDT In this story: Boston Red Sox In what seems like an anomaly, Boston Red Sox fans have a positive update for the club's pitching staff. It was reported Tuesday that John Schreiber threw a bullpen, meaning he could be back on the mound in due time. Schrieber was removed from a game against the Seattle Mariners back in May with a right-lat strain. The earliest the right-hander is able to return from the 60-day injured list is July 16. 6/06/23 Alex Cora Provides Injury Update On Red Sox Reliever John Schreiber. The Boston Red Sox are missing pieces of their bullpen, but none more key than John Schreiber. Schreiber, who turned in a breakout campaign in 2022 and was off to another strong start this season, hasn't pitched since May 15 due to a right teres major strain. It was unknown at the time of the injury how long it would sideline the right-hander — a question that still persists — but Schreiber continues to be on the mend and makes strides in his recovery. In fact, Red Sox manager Alex Cora had an update on Schreiber on Tuesday prior to Boston beginning a three-game series with the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field.
