4/02/23 Jake Woodford's improvements first showed over offseason, Oliver Marmol says: Cardinals Extra. Whether by plane or by car, Jake Woodford tallied his share of miles going from the majors and minors in 2022. Woodford, 26, began last season on the Cardinals' opening-day roster in a bullpen role. “When you worked as hard as Jake has worked, and then you task him with certain things in the offseason and then he comes back and he does it, it becomes a lot tougher to say, 'You're not making the team,'" Marmol said.

3/24/23 Jake Woodford joins starting rotation after meeting challenge of coaching staff: Cardinals Extra. The conversation Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol had with pitcher Jake Woodford in the visiting manager's office at Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park last July had a distinctly different tone from the one they had this week when Marmol informed Woodford he'd break camp with the club. Marmol and members of the major-league coaching staff informed Woodford he'd be going back to the minors and he had to make some changes in order to have a consistent spot on the big-league club.

3/21/23 BenFred: Ten Cardinals takes with 10 days until opener, starting with Jake Woodford's dominance. Cardinals manager Oli Marmol stopped short of saying it, and Jake Woodford prefers to let his pitching do the talking, so I'll be the one who ventures out onto a limb that grows sturdier by the start. Last season the right-hander was more effective than the Cardinals would publicly acknowledge. “I could have been frustrated, but that's not going to get me anywhere,” Woodford said Monday about often riding the Memphis shuttle last season.

3/20/23 Jake Woodford's 'impressive' start and a 4-run inning lead the Cardinals over the Marlins. Jake Woodford pitched five scoreless innings in the Cardinals' 5-0 win over the Miami Marlins in a Grapefruit League game at Roger Dean Stadium.

3/10/23 Against brawny Yankees lineup, Jake Woodford flexes 'impressive' statement for Cardinals. Mar. 9—TAMPA, Fla. — With only a few more pitches to spend, a scoreless tie to hold and a former MVP plate at the plate, Cardinals righthander Jake Woodford got the moment he has prepared for so many times on the back fields of spring training and never got the opportunity. Yankees clean-up hitter Giancarlo Stanton, jammed by a two-strike sinker, hit Woodford's pitch up but not high enough to go far enough for anyone other than the pitcher to catch. Here it was: Woodford's chance to snag a fly. Woodford aced the real test.

3/09/23 With a better feel for his pitches, Cardinals Dakota Hudson aims to tighten his grip on role. A day after Jake Woodford took a significant stride toward defining the role he could have for the Cardinals coming out of the big-league bullpen, another right-hander looking for that same foothold on the depth chart gets his start. Dakota Hudson, a member of the rotation for much of last season, will start against Team Nicaragua in an exhibition game at Roger Dean Stadium. Major League Baseball's new rules, including the pitch clock, will be suspended for Thursday's game against an international team. With a handful of his teammates off competing in the WBC, Hudson will have at least two turns in the rotation and the expanded innings to show the improvements he's made on his pitches and pitch use after an inconsistent year.
