1/23/24 2023 Los Angeles Dodgers Player Reviews: Alex Vesia. Alex Vesia endured an up-and-down regular season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, taking a step back from his success in previous years. The 27-year-old was on the Dodgers' Opening Day roster for 2023, but after posting a 7.84 ERA, 3.35 FIP, 2.81 WHIP and .434 batting average allowed through his first 13 games (10.1 innings), the Dodgers optioned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Vesia was in need of a reset, but at the same time, manager Dave Roberts maintained his confidence in the left-hander. The stay in Triple-A was highly beneficial as Vesia went on to log a 3.43 ERA, 1.02 WHIP with a .200 batting average allowed over his final 39.1 innings with the Dodgers.

9/25/23 Dave Roberts: Dodgers Bullpen 'Really Found Themselves' After Poor Start To Season. Entering the season, the Los Angeles Dodgers bullpen was expected to be a strong point for the club, but they had a rocky start and became a group that provided little confidence. In the first half of the season, the bullpen ranked 23rd in MLB with a 4.43 ERA and 3.92 FIP across 345.2 innings. The struggles were caused by a mix of inconsistent performances, including from Alex Vesia, Yency Almonte and Victor Gonzalez, and injuries that forced the club to rely on relievers who are no longer with the organization, such as Justin Bruihl, Phil Bickford and Andre Jackson.

4/18/23 Why Did Dodgers Use Phil Bickford Instead Of Evan Phillips With Bases Loaded Against Mets?. The Los Angeles Dodgers bullpen continued to struggle Monday night, with Alex Vesia and Phil Bickford the culprits in an 8-6 loss to the New York Mets. Meanwhile, Evan Phillips never appeared despite a prime high-leverage situation arising. As Vesia took over with two outs in the sixth inning to face Daniel Vogelbach with a runner on second base, Mets manager Buck Showalter countered the pitching change by using pinch-hitter Tommy Pham.
