2/14/24 SF Giants replace one Tommy John patient with another in opportunistic roster move. SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — There was much speculation that Wednesday would be the day the dam broke in baseball's glacial free agency. Teams were allowed to transfer players to the 60-day injured list, opening up spots on the 40-man for potential additions without any waiver-wire casualties. The Giants opened one slot, placing one player recovering from Tommy John surgery on the 60-day, and filled it immediately with another. Right-hander Austin Warren will take Robbie Ray's spot on San Francisco's roster, but like Ray, Warren won't be ready to start the season.
