Try it free ATLANTA — Coming into the season, one of the Yankees' points of emphasis was becoming a better baserunning team. Technically, they have done that by virtue of not ranking dead last — as they did last season — in the publicly available baserunning metrics. But too often, especially of late during an 12-19 skid, the Yankees have been hurt by fundamental mistakes on the bases, with Friday night serving as the latest example . | 7/19/25 | Why Yankees' Jorbit Vivas wasn't benched for brutal baserunning mistake. Yankees rookie infielder Jorbit Vivas never was in danger of being benched Friday night after his embarrassing baserunning mistake in the third inning of a 7-3 loss to the Braves. “No,” Boone said on Saturday. With the Braves leading 3-0, Vivas was thrown out at third base after tagging up on Cody Bellinger's two-on, one-out flyball to deep right that was caught by Ronald Acuna Jr., on the edge of the warning track about five feet from the foul line. | 7/19/25 | Yankees manager Aaron Boone addresses viral Jorbit Vivas base-running gaffe vs. Braves. The New York Yankees entered the second half of the 2025 season looking to bounce back from a tough stretch, but their 7-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Friday night raised more questions than answers, especially after Jorbit Vivas' base-running mistake went viral. In the top of the third inning, Vivas was thrown out at third base after a flyout to Ronald Acuna Jr., ending the inning and killing momentum. Vivas slowed as he approached the base and failed to slide, ignoring signs from the third base coach. Deception by the Braves' Nacho Alvarez Jr. played a role, but the Yankees third baseman took full responsibility postgame. Source: https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-yankees/yank... |
| 7/19/25 | Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. stuns Yankees with incredible throw in Atlanta's win. Ronald Acuña Jr. caught the New York Yankees off-guard with a spectacular throw to end the third inning on Friday night. The Atlanta Braves’ All-Star right fielder threw out Jorbit Vivas at third base when Vivas was trying to tag up on a deep fly to corner in right. Acuña caught the ball just in front of the warning track with his back to the infield. He spun and fired and the throw reached third base in the air just in time for third baseman Nacho Alvarez to tag a slowing Vivas, who ignored third-base coach Luis Rojas’ signal to slide. Alvarez was casual as the throw approached in an attempt to fool Vivas. Source: https://www.chron.com/sports/article/braves-star-r... |
