| 3/29/24 | BASEBALL: Holderman set for third big-league season; Stuart, Headrick, Dodd dazzle in spring training. As Major League Baseball celebrated Opening Day Thursday, Bourbonnais native and 2014 Bradley-Bourbonnais Colin Holderman took part in his second Opening Day as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates bullpen. The 6-foot-4 Holderman is entering his third season in the bigs after making his debut with the New York Mets in 2022 and a breakout 2023 in Pittsburgh, where he was dealt at the 2022 trade deadline. As the primary setup man for All-Star closer David Bednar, Holderman recorded 27 holds — spending much of the first half of the season atop the league leaders — and a pair of saves in 2023, compiling an 0-3 record with a 3.86 earned run average across 58 appearances (56 innings).
