2/25/24 | Why Cardinals pitcher Matthew Liberatore has made 'mental game' a major focus. Folks in baseball recognize Matthew Liberatore's big-league ability. The Cardinal has the necessary tools to carry out multiple jobs on a major-league pitching staff, but things just have a knack for getting away from him when he's in a starting role against a big-league lineup. Liberatore, a 6-foot-4 left-hander who has been a highly regarded prospect in the Tampa Bay Rays' farm system as well as the Cardinals' organization, seems certain that the strides that will determine his future success will have more to do with what's going on in his head than anywhere else. “I'd say it's about a 90-10 split,” Liberatore said Saturday.
