11/27/23 Mon/Tues BP: Giants re-sign Cole Waites. The Giants, like all teams that don't call Philadelphia home, have yet to make a splash in free agency this offseason, but they did make a quietly nice move on Sunday, when they re-signed right-handed reliever Cole Waites to a Minor League deal. Waites, an 18th-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, made his MLB debut late in the 2022 season, becoming the first Giants player drafted in the Farhan Zaidi era to make the bigs. Waites was shutdown midseason, and it was eventually determined that he needed Tommy John surgery, which was performed in September, ending his 2024 season before the 2023 season was even wrapped up.

9/16/23 Cole Waites undergoes Tommy John. It's a busy one, with many a baseball game for the Giants to partake in and hopefully win. The surgery was performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas, Texas. It marked an unfortunate end to a tough season for Waites. An 18th-round pick in 2019, the powerful righty made his MLB debut towards the end of the 2022 season, and had the distinction of becoming the first Giants player drafted by Farhan Zaidi to make it to the Majors.

7/13/23 Minor League mid-season primer. It's a good time to take a look at where the San Francisco Giants are at the break, and also to take a look at the MiLB affiliates. It's been a season full of interesting stories on the Giants farm. The Giants were lacking in star prospects, with very few notable players knocking on the door. Reliever Cole Waites was the only player drafted by Farhan Zaidi to make it to the Majors, and most prospect sites viewed it as a distinctly average system.

5/12/23 Giants @ Diamondbacks Gamethread. Can the San Francisco Giants build on Thursday's exciting win and make it two straight wins against the Arizona Diamondbacks ? If so, they'll guarantee at least a series split in the four-game road series. They have some reinforcements on the way. Before the game the team optioned right-handed pitcher Cole Waites and reinstated left-handed pitcher Alex Wood from the Injured List. Wood, who is expected to appear in tonight's game, has made three starts this year and has a 1.80 ERA, a 3.51 FIP, and 11 strikeouts to six walks in 10 innings. But while he's expected to play, he won't start. The distinction goes to John Brebbia, the opener. Brebbia is having an odd season. The right-handed reliever

2/24/23 SF Giants: Prospect Schmitt, long list of veterans headline Cactus League opener lineup; updates on Cole Waites, Sam Delaplane. The lineup the Giants roll out Saturday afternoon for their Cactus League opener will resemble the one that opens the season at Yankee Stadium on March 30, though most veterans won't play more than a few innings. Manager Gabe Kapler said Friday that LaMonte Wade Jr. (1B), Thairo Estrada (2B), Brandon Crawford (3B), Austin Slater (CF) and Joc Pederson (DH) were all tentatively scheduled to be penciled in Saturday against the Cubs at Sloan Park in Mesa (12:05 p.m. PT), while two prospects — Casey Schmitt (3B) and Heliot Ramos (RF) — will also join them.

1/20/23 Community Prospect List No. 16. The 15th chapter of the 2023 Willie McCovey Memorial Community Prospect List is now complete, and it features a high-riser. After tallying the votes, the community has decided that right-handed pitcher Cole Waites is the No. prospect in the San Francisco Giants organization.

9/29/22 SF Giants' minor leagues offer bright spot, some reinforcements. The Sacramento River Cats wrapped their regular season on Wednesday, but some players from the Giants’ Triple-A affiliate didn’t get the go-ahead to head home for the offseason yet. Relievers Cole Waites and Luis Ortiz, who have flashed promise in short looks this September, were among a group of players the Giants selected to remain on call with the big-league club entering the final week of its season.

9/22/22 Giants call up Shelby Miller. To make room on the roster for Miller, right-handed reliever Cole Waites was optioned. It’s a pretty inconsequential move in terms of helping the Giants win games, but then again, the Giants aren’t really in the business of winning games. They’re looking towards 2023, and this serves as an audition for Miller, a 31 year old with nine years of MLB experience.

9/13/22 Cole Waites reaches Giants landmark with debut in loss to Braves. It not only was a memorable debut for Cole Waites but marked an important milestone for the Giants organization.

9/12/22 SF Giants call up hard-throwing pitching prospect Cole Waites. The SF Giants bullpen just got a lot more exciting. The Giants added right-handed pitching prospect Cole Waites to their 40-man roster and promoted him from Triple-A to their big-league roster and optioned outfielder Austin Dean. An 18th-round pick out of the University of West Alabama in 2019, Waites has become the first player drafted under amateur scouting director Michael Holmes and president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi to reach the majors with the Giants.
