| 3/20/24 | Tigers' Sawyer Gipson-Long trying to turn injury into delayed blessing. While the Tigers were playing a spring game against the Twins in Fort Myers on Wednesday, right-hander Sawyer Gipson-Long was back in TigerTown preparing for his first “competition” of the spring. Gipson-Long, the 26-year-old starting pitcher the Tigers acquired from the Twins for Michael Fulmer in August 2022, was intent on battling for one of the five rotation spots. In four starts with the Tigers, he posted a 2.70 ERA and 1.10 WHIP, with a 32% strikeout rate while holding hitters to a .189 batting average.
