In exchange for Arias, who was designated for assignment by the Cubs last week, the Yankees sent cash considerations. | 1/15/25 | Yankees acquire minor-league reliever Michael Arias in trade with Cubs. The Yankees added an arm to their organizational depth Wednesday, swinging a trade with the Chicago Cubs for minor-league right-hander Michael Arias. In return, the Yankees sent cash considerations to Chicago. Arias, 23, has not pitched at the MLB level but recorded a 4.77 ERA over 49 appearances, all in relief, for the Cubs' Double-A and Triple-A affiliates last year. Armed with a mid-to-upper 90s fastball, a promising changeup and a work-in-progress slider, Arias was the Cubs' No. 18 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.
