4/28/24 | Red Sox avoid Sunday Night Baseball bullpen disaster with fun walk-off moment against Cubs. Mark Leiter Jr. gave up a leadoff walk to Jarren Duran, which went on to be his downfall. With Duran and Rafael Devers on third and first, respectively, Tyler O'Neill capitalized. With a 2-2 count, O'Neill lifted a high single that began to fall over shallow left field. Chicago Cubs left fielder Ian Happ was playing deep, as O'Neill has a proclivity for power, but the slugger faked them out. Source: https://bosoxinjection.com/posts/red-sox-avoid-sun... |
3/11/24 | Cubs embracing the next pitching trend: splitters. Until recently, the splitter was somewhat of an old school pitch. Mark Leiter Jr. was the only Cubs pitcher who featured it in his arsenal last year at the major-league level – although his is more of a fork ball. “I was lucky,” Leiter said. Then his son made his pitch, which requires the pitcher to really wedge the ball between his index and middle fingers, a highlight of his own arsenal.
