8/10/23 Rockies lose to Dodgers, 2-1, as Daniel Bard walks in game-winning run. The Rockies' margin for error is always razor thin. When they face the mighty Dodgers, it's pretty much nonexistent. Reliever Daniel Bard, who's struggled with walks much of the season, issued a bases-loaded walk to Max Muncy in the eighth inning to force in the go-ahead run. L.A.'s game-turning rally began when reliever Tommy Doyle issued an ill-advised leadoff walk to pinch-hitter David Peralta and then gave up a one-out single to Mookie Betts.

8/04/23 Friday Rockpile: Is it time to be worried about Daniel Bard?. Daniel Bard's story is well-known: a promising young pitcher who battled the yips and was out of baseball for seven years before fighting for a Rockies roster spot in 2020 with a duct-taped number on his jersey. Bard would go on to win the National League Comeback Player of the Year at age 35 to the delight of Rockies fans who needed something to cheer for in a difficult year. In 2021, Bard was inconsistent with a 5.21 ERA, despite being a bullpen workhorse for the Rockies. Bard rebounded with a career year in 2022.

7/27/23 Thursday Rockpile: This is what an overworked Rockies bullpen looks like. It will just be hot and uncomfortable, which is precisely what has happened to the Rockies since Sunday. Colorado has lost three of their last four games in the eighth, ninth, or 10th inning because the relievers have either lost the strike zone or offered up batting practice to opposing teams. Daniel Bard took the blown save and loss with four walks (this doesn't include the HBP) in the ninth inning on Wednesday. Justin Lawrence earned the blown save and loss in the eighth on Tuesday after giving up a homer, double, single, and a walk.

7/10/23 Rockies' All-Star catcher Elias Diaz: “The Crazy Man” with a big smile. When Rockies reliever Daniel Bard enters the clubhouse at Coors Field, he's often accompanied by his two sons. Davis, 7, and Sykes, 5, usually wear miniature Rockies jerseys, complete with No. 52 and “Bard” emblazoned on the back. “He messes with my kids every time I bring them into the clubhouse,” Bard said with a chuckle. It's not just the kids who gravitate toward Diaz.

6/21/23 Daniel Bard with a chance to make Colorado Rockies history. With his next save, if he gets a next save, Daniel Bard will move into sole possession of fourth place on the Colorado Rockies all-time leaderboard. On October 4, 2022, against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Bard pitched a clean inning to secure a 5-2 win and his 34th save of the season. It capped off a tremendous campaign where he was up there with Edwin Diaz as the most dominant relievers in all of baseball.

Twins reliever Jorge López, who hasn't pitched well for the past month, will spend some time away from the team after he was placed on the 15-day injured list for mental health reasons Sunday. López is the fourth MLB player to spend time on the IL to address mental health this season, along with Colorado reliever Daniel Bard, Oakland outfielder Austin Meadows and Oakland reliever Trevor May. "I think it's definitely the right move for him," Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said.

5/19/23 Astros' José Altuve to Make 2023 Season Debut vs. A's After Thumb Injury Rehab. The surging Houston Astros are going to get a big boost in their lineup Friday when José Altuve makes his 2023 debut. The team announced Friday afternoon Altuve has been activated from the injured list after he missed 43 games because of a broken thumb suffered in the World Baseball Classic. 5/17/23 One MLB Player's Journey to Better Mental Health: 'It's Something That's a Part of Me'. Daniel Bard recognized the knot in his stomach. At times, as yet another hypnotist met him in yet another poorly lit Holiday Inn, hiding because he was so ashamed of what he then called a failure, it felt “like drug deals,” says his wife, Adair. After the worst outing, the one when he threw 17 pitches, recorded zero outs, allowed four runs, walked two and broke the right thumb of Venezuela and Astros second baseman Jose Altuve, Adair hopefully asked Daniel whether there might be an innocent explanation: a slick ball, perhaps. Most baseball men call the sport's most mysterious ailment the monster or the thing, as if calling it by its name might summon it, so it was unusual that Bard spoke the word aloud.

Fourteen years ago Saturday, the Rockies' right-hander made his major-league debut at age 23. Bard entered his first game for the Red Sox in the bottom of the seventh against the Angels.
