11/17/23 2023 Arizona Diamondbacks Reviews: #55, Peter Solomon. Having written close to fifteen hundred words about Madison Bumgarner yesterday, I think it's safe to say that this won't be anywhere close to as long. The latter is how Solomon arrived in Arizona. Originally a 4th-round pick by the Astros in 2017, he moved to Pittsburgh in September 2022, when the Pirates picked him off waivers. This re-united him with former pitching coach Brent Strom, who had been with the Astros when Solomon made his major-league debut for them in 2021.

11/08/23 SF Giants News: Bochy "overwhelmed" by outpouring of love from former team. Yesterday, former San Francisco Giants manager and current reigning World Series winning manager Bruce Bochy appeared on KNBR's Murph & Mac morning show. First and fondest, he talked about how Madison Bumgarner, Buster Posey, and even the elusive Tim Lincecum reached out to congratulate him after he led the Texas Rangers to their first World Series victory last week.

11/06/23 Diamondbacks Offseason: the Prospect-Centric View. Since Mike Hazen has already indicated that the team is looking primarily that direction for improvements, it makes more sense to be aware of such things. Yes, the Diamondbacks will be losing a certain amount of money (likely at least $15 million, based on the $18 million payment that was missed, the $208 million figure some have reported that the the Diamondbacks were due in 2023, and the 80% figure that Manfred said would be covered by the league) due to the Bally/Diamond/Sinclair situation. While Madison Bumgarner will likely still be the highest paid player in 2024, his salary will drop by $11 million.

9/30/23 Arizona Diamondbacks 0, Houston Astros 1: Close Enough. The Arizona Diamondbacks entered tonight needing either a victory or a Cincinnati Reds loss to clinch their postseason berth. Up until the Midsummer Classic this team was leading the division and steamrolling their way to the playoffs. Madison Bumgarner was cut loose after only four starts in favor of a handful of younger starting pitchers because Mike Hazen felt the urgency with the team performing beyond expectations. The roster move paid off as the team entered July fifteen games above .500, but then the wheels seemingly fell off.

8/22/23 Kurtenbach: Kyle Harrison's SF Giants call-up means the clock is ticking on Farhan Zaidi. Now all you have to do is save the Giants' season. No matter how it goes for the most anticipated pitcher call-up since Madison Bumgarner, the fact is that his entrance to the big leagues signals a shift for the Giants' organization. It took much longer than expected, but welcome to Phase 2 of the Farhan Zaidi administration: the no-excuses era.

8/21/23 How will the Giants make room for Kyle Harrison?. In case you missed it, the San Francisco Giants made it official: top prospect Kyle Harrison will be called up Tuesday for his MLB debut. You'll get to see lots of Harrison tonight if you watch the Giants game, because he'll be part of the taxi squad to help him get acclimated before starting on Tuesday. Harrison is the best Giants pitcher prospect to debut since Madison Bumgarner, and the best Giants strikeout prospect to debut since Tim Lincecum, and the best overall prospect to debut since either a really long time ago or a month ago, depending on how you fit into the Harrison vs. Marco Luciano debate.

8/20/23 Source: SF Giants calling up top pitching prospect Kyle Harrison. Kyle Harrison, the Giants' most-heralded pitching prospect since Madison Bumgarner and a Bay Area native, will be promoted to make his highly anticipated major league debut Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies, a source confirmed to the Bay Area News Group. FanSided MLB insider Robert Murray was first to report the news. Harrison, considered the No. 35 overall prospect in the game by Baseball America and No. 20 by MLB.com, has a 4.66 ERA in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League this season with 105 strikeouts — and 48 walks — in 65? innings but earned the promotion with the improvements he made since returning from a mid-season hamstring strain.

8/09/23 D-backs are plummeting with no end in sight; What happened?. The Arizona Diamondbacks were once a fun team to watch, the top story in all of baseball, actually. The Snakes gave beat writers plenty of storylines to write about, gave reporters plenty of storylines to report on, and plenty of storylines for fans to talk about, from cutting Madison Bumgarner and instantly becoming a better team to the rise of rookie phenom Corbin Carroll, who's taken the league by storm in his first full season in the show.

7/24/23 Series Preview #33: Cardinals @ Diamondbacks. It seems ages ago, and indeed we are talking about mid April here so it has been a while, but the last time the Diamondbacks played the Cardinals this season it was also the last game of Madison Bumgarner for the Diamondbacks and in the MLB. In the final game of that 3-game series in Saint Louis, Bumgarner gave up 7 runs in just 3 innings, blowing up his ERA to an unforgivable 10.26. Mike Hazen decided to pull the trigger not much later, and so Madison Bumgarner's pitching career was shot down. The Diamondbacks lost that game, on April 19, with 14-5 but they took the series and held a 2 game lead over the Dodgers in the NL West.

5/22/23 MLB rumors: Madison Bumgarner's Diamondbacks decline due to 'lack of trust'. If Madison Bumgarner signs with another team this season, he'll certainly have plenty to consider if he wants to rediscover his old form.

5/16/23 SF Giants' seeds sowed from Madison Bumgarner's departure begin to bloom. Early on in Farhan Zaidi's tenure, after his first season heading the Giants' baseball operations, before he had hired a manager or a general manager, he had decisions to make regarding a franchise icon. Out of contention at the trade deadline in 2019, the Giants opted to hold on to Madison Bumgarner and, a few months later, didn't explore a reunion seriously enough to prevent him from leaving as a free agent for Arizona. The decision to let Bumgarner walk has long looked like the wise move, with the now-33-year-old left-hander without a team and the Diamondbacks still on the hook for more than $34 million of the $90 million they guaranteed him four winters ago. The arrival of Casey Schmitt last week represented a milestone for the current front office, as the first position player drafted and developed by the regime to reach the majors.

5/10/23 Mike Hazen has a bullpen problem. GM Mike Hazen deserves a lot of credit for what he has done in his time with the Diamondbacks. Most obviously, he has rebuilt a farm system from one largely bereft of major-league talent, to one ranked by MLB.com as the third-best in the majors coming into this season - the first time in MLB Pipeline history it has been that high. Right now, the team would be in the 2023 post-season if it started today, and is making a good fist of competing in the NL West against the much better-resourced Padres and Dodgers. Madison Bumgarner, and there's one area where Hazen has persistently struggled.

4/23/23 PYW's 23: Week 4. Last week, I asked you to tell me what would happen before the Diamondbacks released Madison Bumgarner. If you guessed “the next episode of PYW's” you would have lost! Everyone jumping on board to make fun of Bumgarner is perfect proof of that. Every winner this week is a Sedona Red comment, and there was even one red comment that didn't quite make the cut.
