4/28/24 Milwaukee Brewers Lose in High Run Game Against New York Yankees Saturday. Wausau, WI (WSAU)– The Milwaukee Brewers were served an upset yesterday as they took on the New York Yankees. They were shut down by the Yankees 15-3. The Brewers started the game with pitcher Joe Ross. Ross struggled to find his groove for the 5 innings played. The surging Milwaukee Brewers will turn to right-hander Joe Ross in an effort to keep their momentum going when they host the New York Yankees on Saturday night in the middle game of the weekend series. The Milwaukee Brewers announced on Tuesday, Dec. 12 the team has signed right-handed pitcher Joe Ross to a one-year contract. A news release says Ross, 30, has spent his entire six-year Major League career (2015-19, 2021) with the Washington Nationals and has gone 26-28 with a 4.26 ERA in 98 games (76 starts). Originally selected by the San Diego Padres in the first round (25th overall) of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland, CA, Ross was traded to Washington as part of a three-team (also Tampa Bay), 11-player deal on Dec. 18, 2014.

Once, when Ross was on the Washington Nationals and they were playing in San Francisco, his father Willie, a doctor at Stanford Children’s Hospital, saved a choking fan at Oracle Park by administering the Heimlich maneuver. Three years ago, the Giants signed Ross’ older brother, Tyson, to a Minor League deal with an invitation to camp. He was released shortly before the start of “Summer Camp,” before both Ross brothers decided to sit out of the 2020 season due to the pandemic.

Nationals right-hander Joe Ross will have season-ending Tommy John surgery, clouding his future with Washington in his final year under contract. Washington manager Dave Martinez said Tuesday that Ross had opted for the surgery. The 29-year-old starter has been out since spring training with right elbow issues, and he exited a minor league rehab start last week with renewed soreness.
